وقَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: ﴿إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا(القمر: ١٩ ، وَقَوْلِهِ: إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ (الذريات: ٤١ ، وَقَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَن يُرْسِلَ الرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَاتِ ) (الروم: ٤٦)
Allah, the Almighty, said: "Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind" (Qur'an 54:19)
And His saying: "When We sent upon them the barren wind" (Qur'an 51:41)
And His saying: "And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings" (Qur'an 30:46)
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (رضي الله عنهما) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: نُصِرْتُ بِالصَّبَا وَأُهْلِكَتْ عَادُ بِالدَّبُوْرِ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I was aided by the east wind, and the people of 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind." [Agreed upon]
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَتْ: مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ضَاحِكًا حَتَّى أَرَى مِنْهُ لَهَوَاتِهِ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَتَبَسَّمُ، قَالَتْ: فَكَانَ إِذَا رَأَى غَيْمًا أَوْ رِيحًا عُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laugh so heartily that his uvula could be seen. He would only smile." She added: "Whenever he saw clouds or wind, a change could be noticed on his face." [Agreed upon]
وَعَنْهَا (رضي الله عنه) قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا عَصَفَتِ الرِّيحُ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيْهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيْهَا وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَإِذَا تَخَيَّلَتِ السَّمَاءُ تَغَيَّرَ لَوْنُهُ وَخَرَجَ وَدَخَلَ وَأَقْبَلَ وَأَدْبَرَ، فَإِذَا مَطَرَتْ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَعَرَفْتُ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: «لَعَلَّهُ - يَا عَائِشَةُ - كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ عَادٍ {فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا} (الأحقاف: ٢٤ . وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: وَيَقُوْلُ إِذَا رَأَى الْمَطَرَ: رَحْمَةُ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "When a strong wind blew, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good of this wind, the good of what it contains, and the good of what it is sent with. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, the evil of what it contains, and the evil of what it is sent with.' When the sky became cloudy, his color would change, and he would go in and out, and move back and forth. When it rained, his anxiety would be relieved. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'I asked him about it, and he said: 'O Aisha, perhaps it is as the people of 'Ad said: "When they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain!'" (Qur'an 46:24). In another narration, he would say when he saw rain: 'Mercy.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُوْلُ : الرِّيْحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ، تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَبِالْعَذَابِ، فَلَا تَسُبُّوْهَا وَسَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا، وَعُوْذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا». رَوَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَبُوْ دَاوُدَ وَابْنُ مَاجَه وَالْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي الدَّعَوَاتِ الْكَبِيرِ».
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'The wind is from the mercy of Allah. It brings mercy and punishment. So do not curse it, but ask Allah for its good, and seek refuge in Him from its evil.'" [Narrated by Al-Shafi'i, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Al-Bayhaqi in Al-Da'awat Al-Kabir]
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (رضي الله عنه) أَنَّ رَجُلًا لَعَنَ الرِّيْحَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ، فَقَالَ: «لَا تَلْعَنُوا الرِّيْحَ، فَإِنَّهَا مَأْمُورَةٌ، وَإِنَّهُ مَنْ لَعَنَ شَيْئًا لَيْسَ لَهُ بِأَهْلِ رَجَعَتْ اللَّعْنَةُ عَلَيْهِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a man cursed the wind in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ), so he said: "Do not curse the wind, for it is commanded. Whoever curses something that does not deserve it, the curse will return to him." [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi]
وَعَنْ أُبَيِّ بْن كَعْبٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «لَا تَسُبُّوا الرِّيْحَ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَكْرَهُوْنَ فَقُوْلُوْا: اللهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذِهِ الرِّيْحِ وَخَيْرِ مَا فِيْهِ وَخَيْرِ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ، وَنَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ وَشَرِّ مَا فِيْهَا وَشَرِّ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ.
Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Do not curse the wind. When you see something you dislike, say: 'O Allah, we ask You for the good of this wind, the good of what it contains, and the good of what it is commanded to do. And we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, the evil of what it contains, and the evil of what it is commanded to do.'" [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi]
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: مَا هَبَّتْ رِيحٌ قَطُّ إِلَّا جَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا رَحْمَةً، وَلَا تَجْعَلْهَا عَذَابًا ، اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا رِيَاحًا وَلَا تَجْعَلْهَا رِيحًا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ تَعَالَى: ﴿إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا} {إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ} (الذريات: ٤١) {وَأَرْسَلْنَا الرِّيَاحَ لَوَاقِعَ} (الحجر: ۲۲ {وَ أَن يُرْسِلَ الرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَاتِ} (الروم: ٤٦). رَوَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ وَالْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي الدَّعَوَاتِ الْكَبِيرِ».
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "Whenever a wind blew, the Prophet (ﷺ) would fall to his knees and say: 'O Allah, make it a mercy and do not make it a punishment. O Allah, make it gentle winds and do not make it a destructive wind.' Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'In the Book of Allah, it is mentioned: "Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind" (Qur'an 54:19), "When We sent upon them the barren wind" (Qur'an 51:41), "And We send the fertilizing winds" (Qur'an 15:22), and "And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings" (Qur'an 30:46).'" [Narrated by Al-Shafi'i and Al-Bayhaqi in Al-Da'awat Al-Kabir]
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَبْصَرَ نَاشِئًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ - تَعْنِي السَّحَابَ - تَرَكَ عَمَلَهُ وَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ، وَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِيْهِ»، فَإِنْ كَشَفَهُ حَمِدَ اللهَ، وَإِنْ مَطَرَتْ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ سَقْيًا نَافِعًا». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ وَابْنُ مَاجَهِ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) saw a cloud forming in the sky, he would stop what he was doing, face it, and say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what it contains.' If it cleared away, he would praise Allah, and if it rained, he would say: 'O Allah, make it a beneficial rain.'" [Narrated by Abu Dawud, Al-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and Al-Shafi'i, with the wording being that of Al-Shafi'i]
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ (رضي الله عنهما) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ للهِ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ صَوْتَ الرَّعْدِ وَالصَّوَاعِقِ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ، وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ، وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ». رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالتَّرْمِذِيُّ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) would say when he heard the sound of thunder and lightning: "O Allah, do not kill us with Your anger, and do not destroy us with Your punishment. Grant us safety before that." [Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi]
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ (رضي الله عنهما) أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّعْدَ تَرَكَ الْحَدِيثَ، وَقَالَ: {سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ، وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ} (الرعد: ۱۳. رَوَاهُ مَالِكُ.
Abdullah ibn Al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that whenever he heard thunder, he would stop speaking and say: "Glory be to Him whom the thunder glorifies with His praise, and so do the angels out of fear of Him" (Qur'an 13:13). [Narrated by Malik]
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ (رضي الله عنهما) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ : مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ خَمْسُ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: {إِنَّ اللهَ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ (لقمان : ٣٤ الْآيَةَ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The keys of the unseen are five," and then he recited: "Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain" (Qur'an 31:34). [Narrated by Al-Bukhari]
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ : «لَيْسَتِ السَّنَّةُ بِأَنْ لَا تُمْطَرُوْا، وَلَكِنِ السَّنَةُ أَنْ تُمْطَرُوْا وَلَا تُنْبِتُ الْأَرْضُ شَيْئًا». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A year is not considered a drought because of no rain, but a drought is when rain falls but the earth does not produce anything." [Narrated by Muslim]
