The Romans have been defeated
The Romans have been defeated
Defeated have been the Byzantines
The Romans have been subdued.
The Romans have been overpowered (by Persia)
in a nearby land. Yet following their defeat, they will triumph
In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious
in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious
In the nearby land and after their subjugation they will soon overcome.
In the land nearby. And after their defeat they will soon gain victory
within three to nine years. The ˹whole˺ matter rests with Allah before and after ˹victory˺. And on that day the believers will rejoice
Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice
within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice
In a few years. The command is of Allah only before and after. And on that day the believers shall rejoice.
In a few years (i.e., in less than a decade). The command is but Allah’s both before (in the Persian dominance) and afterwards too (in the Roman dominance). And the believers will rejoice on that day
at the victory willed by Allah. He gives victory to whoever He wills. For He is the Almighty, Most Merciful.
In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful.
in God’s succour: [for] He gives succour to whomever He wills, since He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace.
With the help of Allah, He helps whom He pleases. And He is the Mighty, the Merciful.
With the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills and He is Almighty, Ever-Merciful
˹This is˺ the promise of Allah. ˹And˺ Allah never fails in His promise. But most people do not know.
It is a promise of Allah. Allah faileth not His promise, but most of mankind know not.
[This is] God’s promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not:
This is the promise of Allah, Allah breaks not His promise, but most of the people know not.
(This) is the promise of Allah. Allah does not go against His promise but most people do not know
They ˹only˺ know the worldly affairs of this life, but are ˹totally˺ oblivious to the Hereafter.
They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter.
they know but the outer surface of this world’s life, whereas of the ultimate things they are utterly unaware.
They know only the outer appearance of the worldly life, and they are fully unaware of the Hereafter.
They know only the visible worldly life, and they are neglectful and unaware of (the real life of) the Hereafter
Have they not reflected upon their own being? Allah only created the heavens and the earth and everything in between for a purpose and an appointed term. Yet most people are truly in denial of the meeting with their Lord!
Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.
Have they never learned to think for themselves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer!
Have they-not pondered within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them but with truth and for an appointed term. And undoubtedly, most of the people are deniers of the meeting with their Lord.
Have they not meditated within themselves that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between the two except with (a system of) truth and for a fixed term? And surely, most of the people do not believe in the meeting with their Lord
Have they not travelled throughout the land to see what was the end of those ˹destroyed˺ before them? They were far superior in might; they cultivated the land and developed it more than these ˹Meccans˺ ever have. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. Allah would have never wronged them, but it was they who wronged themselves.
Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.
Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [deniers of the truth] who lived before their time? Greater were they in power than they are; and they left a stronger impact on the earth, and built it up even better than these [are doing]; and to them [too] came their apostles with all evidence of the truth: and so, [when they rejected the truth and thereupon perished,] it was not God who wronged them, but it was they who had wronged themselves.
And have they not traveled in the land so that they might see how was the end of those before them? They were more powerful than these, and they tilled the soil and populated it. And their Messengers brought to them bright signs. Then it was not befitting to the dignity of Allah Who would oppress them; yes they used to oppress themselves.
Have they not travelled in the earth and seen what was the end of those before them? They were more powerful than them. And they cultivated the earth, and inhabited it far more than these people have done. Then their Messengers came to them with clear signs. So Allah would not wrong them but they wronged their souls themselves
Then most evil was the end of the evildoers for denying and mocking the signs of Allah.
Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them.
And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God’s messages and deriding them.
Then the end of those who committed evil to their limit was this that they began to belie the signs of Allah and to mock at them.
Then much evil came to be the end of those who did evil because they used to belie the Revelations of Allah and used to ridicule them
It is Allah Who originates the creation, and will resurrect it. And then to Him you will ˹all˺ be returned.
Allah produceth creation, then He reproduceth it, then unto Him ye will be returned.
GOD CREATES [man] in the first instance, and then brings him forth anew: and, in the end, unto Him you all will be brought back.
Allah Creates for the first time then He shall make for the second time, then you shall be returned to Him.
Allah generates creation the first time, then (He is the One Who) will create it the second time, then to Him you will be returned
On the Day the Hour will arrive, the wicked will be dumbstruck.
And in the day when the Hour riseth the unrighteous will despair.
And when the last Hour dawns, those who were lost in sin will be broken in spirit
And the day when the Hour shall be established the culprits shall despair.
And the Day when the Last Hour is established, the evildoers will lose hope
There will be no intercessors for them from among their associate-gods, and they will ˹totally˺ deny their associate-gods.
There will be none to intercede for them of those whom they made equal with Allah. And they will reject their partners (whom they ascribed unto Him).
for they will have no intercessors in the beings to whom they were wont to ascribe a share in God’s divinity, seeing that [by then] they themselves will have ceased to believe in their erstwhile blasphemous fancies.
And their associates shall not be their intercessors and they will deny their associates.
And none of their (self-made) partners will intercede for them, and (ultimately) they will deny their very same partners
And on the Day the Hour will arrive, the people will then be split ˹into two groups˺.
In the day when the Hour cometh, in that day they will be sundered.
And when the Last Hour dawns - on that Day will all [men] be sorted out:
And the day when the Hour shall be established the day they will be separated.
And the Day when the Last Hour will be established, people will separate from one another (in personal agony)
As for those who believed and did good, they will be rejoicing in a Garden.
As for those who believed and did good works, they will be made happy in a Garden.
as for those who attained to faith and did righteous deeds, they shall be made happy in a garden of delight;
Then those who believed and did good deeds, they shall be entertained in the flowerbed of the garden.
So those who believe and always do pious deeds will be pleased and delighted in the Gardens of Paradise
And as for those who disbelieved, and denied Our signs and the meeting ˹with Allah˺ in the Hereafter, they will be confined in punishment.
But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our revelations, and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, such will be brought to doom.
but as for those who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to Our messages - and (thus) to the announcement of a life to come - they will be given over to suffering.
And those who became infidels and belied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter, they shall be brought into the torment.
And those who disbelieve and belie Our Revelations and the meeting of the Last Day, it is they who will be brought forth to the torment
So glorify Allah in the evening and in the morning—
So glory be to Allah when ye enter the night and when ye enter the morning -
EXTOL, then, God’s limitless glory when you enter upon the evening hours, and when you rise at morn;
Therefore, glorify Allah when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning.
So glorify Allah when you enter the evening (Maghrib and ‘Isha’ times) and when you enter the morning (Fajr time)
all praise is for Him in the heavens and the earth—as well as in the afternoon, and at noon.
Unto Him be praise in the heavens and the earth! - and at the sun's decline and in the noonday.
and [seeing that] unto Him is due all praise in the heavens and on earth, [glorify Him] in the afternoon as well, and when you enter upon the hour of noon.
And His is praise in the heavens and in the earth, and at little before the setting of sun and when you enter the noon.
And all praise in the heavens and the earth be to Him alone, and (glorify Him) in the afternoon (‘Asr time) and at noon (Zuhr time) as well
He brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living. And He gives life to the earth after its death. And so will you be brought forth ˹from the grave˺.
He bringeth forth the living from the dead, and He bringeth forth the dead from the living, and He reviveth the earth after her death. And even so will ye be brought forth.
He [it is who] brings forth the living out of that which is dead, and brings forth the dead out of that which is alive, and gives life to the earth after it had been lifeless: and even thus will you be brought forth [from death to life]
He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and gives life to the earth after its death. And in like manner you shall be brought forth.
He is the One Who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living, and enlivens and freshens the earth after its death. And you (too) will be brought forth (from the graves) the same way
One of His signs is that He created you from dust, then—behold!—you are human beings spreading over ˹the earth˺.

And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your languages and colours. Surely in this are signs for those of ˹sound˺ knowledge.
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Lo! herein indeed are portents for men of knowledge.
And among his wonders is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your tongues and colours: for in this, behold, there are messages indeed for all who are possessed of [innate] knowledge!
And of His signs is the creation of heavens and earth, and the diversity of your tongues and colours. No doubt, in it are signs for those who hear.
And of His signs (too) is the creation of the heavens and the earth and (also) the diversity of your tongues and colours. Verily, in that are signs for the men of knowledge (and research)
And one of His signs is your sleep by night and by day ˹for rest˺ as well as your seeking His bounty ˹in both˺. Surely in this are signs for people who listen.

And among His wonders is your sleep, at night or in daytime, as well as your [ability to go about in] quest of some of His bounties: in this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who [are willing to] listen!
And of His signs is your sleeping by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. No doubt, in it are signs for those who hear.
And (also) of His signs is your sleep by night and by day and your looking for His bounty (i.e., sustenance). Verily, there are signs in it for the (active) listeners
And one of His signs is that He shows you lightning, inspiring ˹you with˺ hope and fear. And He sends down rain from the sky, reviving the earth after its death. Surely in this are signs for people who understand.
And of His signs is this: He showeth you the lightning for a fear and for a hope, and sendeth down water from the sky, and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who understand.
And among His wonders is this: He displays before you the lightning, giving rise to [both] fear and hope, and sends down water from the skies, giving life thereby to the earth after it had been lifeless: in this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who use their reason!
And of His signs is that He shows you lightening frightening you and making you hopeful and sends down water from the heaven and gives life therewith the earth after its death. No doubt, in it are signs for a people of understanding.
And amongst His signs (as well) is that He shows you lightning to make you fear and hope and pours (rain)water from the sky. Then with that, He brings the earth back to life and liveliness after it dies. Verily, there are signs in it for those who put their mind to work
And one of His signs is that the heavens and the earth persist by His command. Then when He calls you out of the earth just once, you will instantly come forth.
And of His signs is this: The heavens and the earth stand fast by His command, and afterward, when He calleth you, lo! from the earth ye will emerge.
And among His wonders is this: the skies and the earth stand firm at His behest. [Remember all this: for] in the end, when He will call you forth from the earth with a single call - lo! you will [all] emerge [for judgment].
And of His signs is that the heaven and the earth stand firm by His command. Then when He will call you from the earth, henceforth you will come out.
And (also) of His signs is that the heavens and the earth stand firm by His (system of) command. Then, when He will give you one call to come (forth) from the earth, at once you will come (forth)
And to Him belong all those in the heavens and the earth—all are subject to His Will.
Unto Him belongeth whosoever is in the heavens and the earth. All are obedient unto Him.
For, unto Him belongs every being that is in the heavens and on earth; all things devoutly obey His will.
And to Him belongs whosoever is in the heavens and the earth. All are under His command.
And whatever is in the heavens and the earth (all) belongs to Him alone. All are obedient and submissive to Him alone
And He is the One Who originates the creation then will resurrect it—which is even easier for Him. To Him belong the finest attributes in the heavens and the earth. And He is the Almighty, All-Wise.
He it is Who produceth creation, then reproduceth it, and it is easier for Him. His is the Sublime Similitude in the heavens and the earth. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
And He it is who creates [all life] in the first instance, and then brings it forth anew: and most easy is this for Him, since His is the essence of all that is most sublime in the heavens and on earth, and He alone is almighty, truly wise.
And He it is, Who makes first, then He will make it for the second time, and it should be most easy for Him in your understanding. And for Him is the, most exalted state in the heavens and in the earth and He is the Honorable, the Wise.
And He is the One Who originates creation, then will regenerate it and this (recreation) is very easy for Him. His is the highest Glory in the heavens and the earth and He is Almighty, Most Wise
He sets forth for you an example ˹drawn˺ from your own lives: would you allow some of those ˹bondspeople˺ in your possession to be your equal partners in whatever ˹wealth˺ We have provided you, keeping them in mind as you are mindful of your peers? This is how We make the signs clear for people who understand.
He coineth for you a similitude of yourselves. Have ye, from among those whom your right hands possess, partners in the wealth We have bestowed upon you, equal with you in respect thereof, so that ye fear them as ye fear each other (that ye ascribe unto Us partners out of that which We created)? Thus We display the revelations for people who have sense.
He propounds unto you a parable drawn from your own life: Would you [agree to] have some of those whom your right hands possess as [full-fledged] partners in whatever We may have bestowed upon you as sustenance, so that you [and they] would have equal shares in it, and you would fear [to make use of it without consulting] them, just as you might fear [the more powerful of] your equals? Thus clearly do We spell out these messages unto people who use their reason.
He narrates for you an example from your own conditions. Are some of your servants the possession of your hand partners in what We have provided for you so that you all become equal therein, you fear them as you fear each other? Thus do We explain the detail signs for a people who understand.
(To bring home the point of the Oneness of God) He has illustrated an example for you from your personal lives: Are those (slaves), whom you possess, your partners in the wealth which We have given you, that you (all) become equal sharers (owners? Moreover, do) you fear them as you fear one another? (No,) We explain the signs expressly in the same way for those who possess wisdom (that there is no partner of Allah also in His creation)
In fact, the wrongdoers merely follow their desires with no knowledge. Who then can guide those Allah has left to stray? They will have no helpers.
Nay, but those who do wrong follow their own lusts without knowledge. Who is able to guide him whom Allah hath sent astray? For such there are no helpers.
But nay - they who are bent on evildoing follow but their own desires, without having any knowledge (of the truth). And who could guide those whom God has [thus] let go astray, and who (thereupon) have none to succour them?
Nay! the unjust followed their own desires without knowledge. Then who will guide him whom Allah has led astray. And they have no helpers.
But those who have done injustice follow the desires of their (ill-commanding) selves without any knowledge (and guidance). So who can guide him whom Allah has held astray? And there are no helpers for them
So be steadfast in faith in all uprightness ˹O Prophet˺—the natural Way of Allah which He has instilled in ˹all˺ people. Let there be no change in this creation of Allah. That is the Straight Way, but most people do not know.
So set thy purpose (O Muhammad) for religion as a man by nature upright - the nature (framed) of Allah, in which He hath created man. There is no altering (the laws of) Allah's creation. That is the right religion, but most men know not -
AND SO, set thy face steadfastly towards the [one ever-true] faith, turning away from all that is false, in accordance with the natural disposition which God has instilled into man: [for,] not to allow any change to corrupt what God has thus created this is the [purpose of the one] ever-true faith; but most people know it not.
Therefore, set right your face for the obedience of Allah being one devoted to Him only. The established pattern of Allah upon which He has created mankind. No change in the created things of Allah. This is the only right religion. But most of the people know not.
So set your face with absolute concentration (and single-minded devotion) to the obedience of Allah. The nature (made) by Allah is (Islam) on which He has created mankind. (Adopt it. The instinct) created by Allah will never be changed. This Din (Religion) is straight but most people do not know (these realities)
˹O believers!˺ Always turn to Him ˹in repentance˺, be mindful of Him, and establish prayers. And do not be polytheists—
Turning unto Him (only); and be careful of your duty unto Him and establish worship, and be not of those who ascribe partners (unto Him);
[Turn, then, away from all that is false,] turning unto Him [alone]; and remain conscious of Him, and be constant in prayer, and be not among those who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him,
Turning to Him in repentance and fear Him and establish prayer and be not of the associaters.
Have your mind set in turning towards Him alone in repentance and remorse and fear Him and establish Prayer and be not of the polytheists
˹like˺ those who have divided their faith and split into sects, each rejoicing in what they have.
Of those who split up their religion and became schismatics, each sect exulting in its tenets.
[or] among those who have broken the unity of their faith and have become sects, each group delighting in but what they themselves hold [by way of tenets].
Of those who have split up their religion and have become many groups. Every group is happy over what they have.
(Also be not) of those (Jews and Christians) who divided up their religion and became sects and subsects—every sect rejoicing over what is with them
When people are touched with hardship, they cry out to their Lord, turning to Him ˹alone˺. But as soon as He gives them a taste of His mercy, a group of them associates ˹others˺ with their Lord ˹in worship˺,
And when harm toucheth men they cry unto their Lord, turning to Him in repentance; then, when they have tasted of His mercy, behold! some of them attribute partners to their Lord
NOW [thus it is:] when affliction befalls men, they cry out unto their Sustainer, turning unto Him [for help]; but as soon as He lets them taste of His grace, lo! some of them [begin to] ascribe to other powers a share in their Sustainer’s divinity,
And when any hurt touches mankind, they call their Lord, turning towards Him, then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, henceforth, a group of them use to associate partners with their Lord.
And when suffering afflicts people, they call upon their Lord turning towards Him, but when He delights them with the taste of mercy from Him, then some of them straight away start setting up partners with their Lord
becoming ungrateful for whatever ˹favours˺ We have given them. So enjoy yourselves, for soon you will know.
So as to disbelieve in that which We have given them. (Unto such it is said): Enjoy yourselves awhile, but ye will come to know.
[as if] to prove their ingratitude for all that We have granted them! Enjoy, then, your [brief] life: but in time you will come to know [the truth]!
That they may be ungrateful for what We have given them. So enjoy then, now soon you are to know.
To show ingratitude for the bounty which We have given them. So enjoy benefits (of a few days’ life), then soon you will know (your end)
Or have We sent down to them an authority which attests to what they associate ˹with Him˺?
Or have We revealed unto them any warrant which speaketh of that which they associate with Him?
Have We ever bestowed upon them from on high a divine writ which would speak [with approval] of their worshipping aught beside Us?
Or have We sent down any authority upon them that it is speaking of them as Our associaters?
Have We sent down to them any (such) authority that speaks as a witness in favour of these idols they associate as partners with Allah
If We give people a taste of mercy, they become prideful ˹because˺ of it. But if they are afflicted with an evil for what their hands have done, they instantly fall into despair.
And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy they rejoice therein; but if an evil thing befall them as the consequence of their own deeds, lo! they are in despair!
And [thus it is:] when we let men taste [Our] grace, they rejoice in it; but if evil befalls them as an outcome of what their own hands have wrought lo! they lose all hope!
And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy, they rejoice in it. And if any evil befalls them, the recompense of what their hands have sent forth, hence they despair.
And when We delight people with the taste of mercy, they cheer up with that, and when some suffering touches them due to the sins they have already perpetrated, they lose hope at once
Have they not seen that Allah gives abundant or limited provisions to whoever He wills? Surely in this are signs for people who believe.
See they not that Allah enlargeth the provision for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will). Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who believe.
Are they, then, not aware that it is God who grants abundant sustenance, or gives it in scant measure, unto whomever He wills? In this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who will believe!
Have they not seen that Allah expands the provision for whomsoever He pleases, and straitens for whomsoever He pleases? Undoubtedly, in it there are signs for the believers.
Have they not seen that Allah releases sustenance in abundance for whom He wills and restrains it (for whom He likes)? Surely, there are signs in it for those who believe
So give your close relatives their due, as well as the poor and the ˹needy˺ traveller. That is best for those who seek the pleasure of Allah, and it is they who will be successful.
So give to the kinsman his due, and to the needy, and to the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek Allah's Countenance. And such are they who are successful.
Hence, give his due to the near of kin, as well as to the needy and the wayfarer; this is best for all who seek God’s countenance: for it is they, they that shall attain to a happy state!
Therefore, give the kinsman his due and the needy and the wayfarer. This is better for those who seek the pleasure of Allah and it is they who became prosperous.
So keep giving to the close relative his due and to the needy and the wayfarers (their due). That is best for those who seek the pleasure of Allah and it is they who will achieve the goal
Whatever loans you give, ˹only˺ seeking interest at the expense of people’s wealth will not increase with Allah. But whatever charity you give, ˹only˺ seeking the pleasure of Allah—it is they whose reward will be multiplied.
That which ye give in usury in order that it may increase on (other) people's property hath no increase with Allah; but that which ye give in charity, seeking Allah's Countenance, hath increase manifold.
And [remember:] whatever you may give out in usury so that it might increase through [other] people’s possessions will bring [you] no increase in the sight of God whereas all that you give out in charity, seeking God’s countenance, [will be blessed by Him:] for it is they, they [who thus seek His countenance] that shall have their recompense multiplied!
And whatever you give to take back more that it may increase the wealth of the givers, then it will not increase with Allah, and whatever you give as charity desiring Allah's pleasure, then those have two fold increase.
And the money that you lend as usury so that (your wealth) may increase through mingling with other people’s money will not increase with Allah, but the money that you give as Zakat ([the obligatory Alms-due] and charity donations), seeking (solely) Allah’s pleasure—so it is they who multiply (their money with Allah) manifold
It is Allah Who created you, then gives you provisions, then will cause you to die, and then will bring you back to life. Can any of your associate-gods do any of this? Glorified and Exalted is He above what they associate with Him ˹in worship˺!
Allah is He Who created you and then sustained you, then causeth you to die, then giveth life to you again. Is there any of your (so-called) partners (of Allah) that doeth aught of that? Praised and Exalted be He above what they associate (with Him)!
IT IS GOD who has created you, and then has provided you with sustenance, and then will cause you to die, and then will bring you to life again. Can any of those beings or powers to whom you ascribe a share in His divinity do any of these things? Limitless is He in His glory, and sublimely exalted above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity!
Allah is He Who created you then provided for you, then He will cause you to die, and then He will give you life. Is there any such of your associates who may do any of these things? Glorified and Exalted is He above from what they associate.
Allah is the One Who created you, then granted you sustenance, then causes you to die and then will bring you back to life. Is there any of your (self-made) partners who may do any of these (works)? Holy is He (Allah) the Glorious, the Transcendent, far above these things which they associate as partners (with Him)
Corruption has spread on land and sea as a result of what people’s hands have done, so that Allah may cause them to taste ˹the consequences of˺ some of their deeds and perhaps they might return ˹to the Right Path˺.
Corruption doth appear on land and sea because of (the evil) which men's hands have done, that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return.
[Since they have become oblivious of God,] corruption has appeared on land and in the sea as an outcome of what men’s hands have wrought: and so He will let them taste [the evil of] some of their doings, so that they might return [to the right path].
The mischief has appeared in the land and sea, because of the evils earned by the hands of men, so that He may make them taste some of their doings, that haply they may turn back.
Corruption and disorder has spread over land and sea on account of (the sins) which people have earned with their hands so that Allah makes them taste the outcome of some of their (evil) deeds that they have committed in order that they may desist
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Travel throughout the land and see what was the end of those ˹destroyed˺ before ˹you˺—most of them were polytheists.”
Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): Travel in the land, and see the nature of the consequence for those who were before you! Most of them were idolaters.
Say: “Go all over the earth, and behold what happened in the end to those [sinners] who lived before [you]: most of them were wont to ascribe divine qualities to things or beings other than God.”
Say you, travel in the land and see what was the end of those before you. Most of them were associators.
Say: ‘Travel in the land, then see how (alarming) was the end of the people before you! Most of them were polytheists.
So be steadfast in the Upright Faith ˹O Prophet˺, before the coming of a Day from Allah that cannot be averted. On that Day the people will be divided:
So set thy purpose resolutely for the right religion, before the inevitable day cometh from Allah. On that day mankind will be sundered-
Set, then, thy face steadfastly towards the one ever-true faith, ere there come from God a Day [of reckoning - the Day] which cannot be averted. On that Day all will be sundered:
Therefore, set your face right for the prayer before there comes a day, which is not to be averted from Allah, on that day they shall be divided.
So set your (radiant) face to the straight Din (Religion) before that Day comes from Allah which will not avert (at all). On that Day people will separate from one another
those who disbelieved will bear ˹the burden of˺ their own disbelief; and those who did good will have prepared for themselves ˹eternal homes˺,
Whoso disbelieveth must (then) bear the consequences of his disbelief, while those who do right make provision for themselves -
he who has denied the truth will have to bear [the burden of] his denial, whereas all who did what is right and just will have made goodly provision for themselves,
Whoso commits infidelity, the burden of his disbelief is on him and those who do good, they are preparing for themselves.
Whoever disbelieves will himself face the (evil consequences) of disbelief, whilst those who act piously are setting aright for themselves the places of rest (in Paradise)
so that He may ˹generously˺ reward those who believe and do good, out of His grace. He truly does not like the disbelievers.
That He may reward out of His bounty those who believe and do good works. Lo! He loveth not the disbelievers (in His guidance).
so that He might reward, out of His bounty, those who have attained to faith and done righteous deeds. Verily, He does not love those who refuse to acknowledge the truth –
In order that He may reward those who have believed and have done good deeds out of His grace. Undoubtedly He loves not the infidels.
So that Allah rewards out of His bounty those who believe and do good deeds. Surely, He does not take the disbelievers for friends
And one of His signs is that He sends the winds, ushering in good news ˹of rain˺ so that He may give you a taste of His mercy, and that ships may sail by His command, and that you may seek His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.
And of His signs is this: He sendeth herald winds to make you taste His mercy, and that the ships may sail at His command, and that ye may seek his favour, and that haply ye may be thankful.
for among His wonders is this: He sends forth [His messages as He sends forth] the winds that bear glad tidings, so that He might give you a taste of His grace [through life-giving rains], and that ships might sail at His behest, and that you might go about in quest of some of His bounties, and that you might have cause to be grateful.
And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of glad tidings and in order that He may cause you to taste of His mercy and that the ship may sail with His command and that you seek His grace and that you may be grateful.
And (also) of His signs is that He sends winds that bring glad tidings (of rain), so that He blesses you with His mercy (in the shape of the results of rain) and that the ships may (also) sail with His command (by means of these winds). And (all this) is because you may seek His bounty (in the form of agriculture and business) and you may (thus) become thankful
Indeed, We sent before you ˹O Prophet˺ messengers, each to their own people, and they came to them with clear proofs. Then We inflicted punishment upon those who persisted in wickedness. For it is Our duty to help the believers.
Verily We sent before thee (Muhammad) messengers to their own folk. Then we took vengeance upon those who were guilty (in regard to them). To help believers is ever incumbent upon Us.
And indeed, [O Muhammad, even] before thee did We send forth apostles - each one unto his own people and they brought them all evidence of the truth: and then, [by causing the believers to triumph,] We inflicted Our retribution upon those who [deliberately] did evil: for We had willed it upon Ourselves to succour the believers.
And undoubtedly, We sent so many Messengers before you, towards their people and they brought them open signs, then We took vengeance from the culprits. And it is on Our grace binding to help the Muslims.
And in fact We sent before you Messengers to their respective peoples and they came to them with clear Signs. Then We took revenge on the wicked (who belied and disbelieved), and to help the believers was (and is) a binding obligation upon Our Grace
It is Allah Who sends the winds, which then stir up ˹vapour, forming˺ clouds, which He then spreads out in the sky or piles up into masses as He wills, from which you see rain come forth. Then as soon as He causes it to fall on whoever He wills of His servants, they rejoice,
Allah is He Who sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds, and spreadeth them along the sky as pleaseth Him, and causeth them to break and thou seest the rain downpouring from within them. And when He maketh it to fall on whom He will of His bondmen, lo! they rejoice;
It is God who sends forth the winds [of hope], so that they raise a cloud - whereupon He spreads it over the skies as He wills, and causes it to break up so that thou seest rain issue from within it: and as soon as He causes it to fall upon whomever He wills of His servants - lo! they rejoice,
Allah is He Who sends the winds that lift the clouds, then He spreads it in the sky as He pleases, and breaks its into fragments, then you see the rain is pouring from its midst. Then when He causes it to reach on whom He pleases of His bondmen, Lo! they rejoice.
Allah is the One Who sends the winds and they raise the clouds. Then He spreads this (cloud) in the atmosphere in the sky as He likes. Then He breaks it up into (various) pieces (layer upon layer). Then you see the rain pouring down from its midst. Then, when He sends it to those of His servants whom He pleases, they become instantly cheerful
although they had utterly lost hope just before it was sent down to them.
Though before that, even before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.
even though a short while ago, [just] before it was sent down upon them, they had abandoned all hope!
Though before it was sent down upon them, they had shattered their hopes.
Although they were in despair before the rainfall upon them
See then the impact of Allah’s mercy: how He gives life to the earth after its death! Surely That ˹same God˺ can raise the dead. For He is Most Capable of everything.
Look, therefore, at the prints of Allah's mercy (in creation): how He quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! He verily is the Quickener of the Dead, and He is Able to do all things.
Behold, then, [O man,] these signs of God’s grace - how He gives life to the earth after it had been lifeless! Verily, this Selfsame [God] is indeed the One that can bring the dead back to life: for He has the power to will anything!
Look then the effects of the mercy of Allah, how He gives life to the earth after its death, no doubt, He will give life to the dead, and He can do everything.
So see the effects of Allah’s mercy how He gives life to the earth after its death! Surely, He will bring the dead back to life (in the same way) and He is All-Powerful over everything
Then if We send a ˹harsh˺ wind which they see withering ˹their˺ crops, they will definitely deny ˹old favours˺ right after.
And if We sent a wind and they beheld it yellow, they verily would still continue in their disbelief.
But thus it is: if We send a wind [that scorches their land], and they see it turn yellow, they begin, after that [erstwhile joy], to deny the truth [of Our almightiness and grace]!
And if We send any wind by which they see their harvest yellow, then they would certainly thereafter Continue to he ungrateful.
And if We send a dry wind and they see (their) crops turning yellow, then after this they will start denying (all the earlier favours)
So you ˹O Prophet˺ certainly cannot make the dead hear ˹the truth˺. Nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away.
For verily thou (Muhammad) canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee.
And, verily, thou canst not make the dead hear: and [so, too,] thou canst not make the deaf [of heart] hear this call when they turn their backs [on thee] and go away,
Therefore you make not the dead to hear nor you make the deaf to hear the call when they turn away showing their backs.
(O Beloved!) Surely, you make neither the dead (i.e., the disbelievers deprived of the vitality of faith) hear your call nor the deaf (i.e., deprived of hearing the call of truth) whilst they are getting away (from you) turning their backs.
Nor can you lead the blind out of their misguidance. You can make none hear ˹the truth˺ except those who believe in Our revelations, ˹fully˺ submitting ˹to Allah˺.
Nor canst thou guide the blind out of their error. Thou canst make none to hear save those who believe in Our revelations so that they surrender (unto Him).
just as thou canst not lead the blind [of heart] out of their error: none canst thou make hear [thy call] save such as [are willing to] believe in Our messages, and thus surrender themselves unto Us.
And nor you guide the blind from their error. You make only those to hear who believe in Our signs and they have already surrendered.
Nor can you turn (these) blind (i.e., wanting in insight) from misguidance to the path of guidance. You recite (with the essential understanding and competence of acceptability) only to those people who believe in Our Revelations. So it is they who are Muslims. (You recite to none except them.
It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then developed ˹your˺ weakness into strength, then developed ˹your˺ strength into weakness and old age. He creates whatever He wills. For He is the All-Knowing, Most Capable.
Allah is He Who shaped you out of weakness, then appointed after weakness strength, then, after strength, appointed weakness and grey hair. He createth what He will. He is the Knower, the Mighty.
IT IS GOD who creates you [all in a states of weakness, and then, after weakness, ordains strength [for you], and then, after [a period of] strength, ordains [old-age] weakness and grey hair. He creates what He wills; and He alone is all-knowing, infinite in His power.
Allah is He who made you weak in the beginning, then He gave you strength after weakness, then after strength caused weakness and old age. He makes what he likes. He is the Knowing, the Authoritative.
Allah is the One Who created you from a weak thing (i.e., a sperm drop). Then after weakness He generated strength (of youth). Then after strength He produced debility and senility. He creates what He wills, and He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful
And on the Day the Hour will arrive, the wicked will swear that they did not stay ˹in this world˺ more than an hour. In this way they were always deluded ˹in the world˺.
And on the day when the Hour riseth the guilty will vow that they did tarry but an hour - thus were they ever deceived.
[He it is who will cause you to die, and in time will resurrect you.] And when the Last Hour dawns, those who had been lost in sin will swear that they had not tarried [on earth] longer than an hour: thus were they wont to delude themselves [all their lives]!
And the day when the Hour shall be established, the culprits will swear, that they tarried not but an hour. Thus, they were turned down.
And the Day when the Last Hour is established, the evildoers will swear they did not stay (in the world) for more than an hour. They used to turn back (from truth) in the same manner (in the world as well)
But those gifted with knowledge and faith will say ˹to them˺, “You did actually stay—as destined by Allah—until the Day of Resurrection. So here is the Day of Resurrection ˹which you denied˺! But you did not know ˹it was true˺.”
But those to whom knowledge and faith are given will say: The truth is, ye have tarried, by Allah's decree, until the Day of Resurrection. This is the Day of Resurrection, but ye used not to know.
But those who [in their lifetime] were endowed with knowledge and faith will say: “Indeed, you have been tardy in [accepting as true] what God has revealed, [and you have waited] until the Day of Resurrection: this, then, is the Day of Resurrection: but you - you were determined not to know it!
And those who were given knowledge and faith said, 'undoubtedly, you have tarried according to the writing of Allah, until the Day of Rising up. This then is Day of Rising up but you did not know.
And those blessed with knowledge and faith will say (to them): ‘Indeed, according to the Book of Allah, you have stayed till the Day of Resurrection (instead of one hour). So this is the Day of Resurrection but you did not know it.
So on that Day the wrongdoers’ excuses will not benefit them, nor will they be allowed to appease ˹their Lord˺.
In that day their excuses will not profit those who did injustice, nor will they be allowed to make amends.
And so, on that Day their excuse will be of no avail to those who were bent on evildoing, nor will they be allowed to make amends.
Therefore on that day, their excuses shall not benefit the oppressors, nor will any one demand them to please Allah.
So on that Day, the excuse of the wrongdoers will not be of any benefit to them, nor will they be asked to please (Allah)
We have certainly set forth every ˹kind of˺ lesson for people in this Quran. And no matter what sign you bring to them ˹O Prophet˺, the disbelievers will definitely say ˹to the believers˺, “You are only a people of falsehood.”
Verily We have coined for mankind in this Qur'an all kinds of similitudes; and indeed if thou camest unto them with a miracle, those who disbelieve would verily exclaim: Ye are but tricksters!
AND, INDEED, We have propounded unto men all kinds of parables in this Qur’an. But thus it is: if thou approach them with any [such] message, those who are bent on denying the truth are sure to say, “You are but making false claims!”
And undoubtedly, We have set in this Quran every kind of examples for the people. If you bring them any sign, the infidels would certainly say then, 'you are not but on falsehood'.
And in truth We have elucidated every type of example in this Qur’an for the people (to make them understand). And if you bring them some (visible) sign, even then these disbelieving people will certainly say: ‘You are only doing falsehood and fraud.
This is how Allah seals the hearts of those unwilling to know ˹the truth˺.
Thus doth Allah seal the hearts of those who know not.
In this way does God seal the hearts of those who do not [want to] know [the truth].
Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know.
That is how Allah seals the hearts of the people who do not know (the truth, despite it becomes evident)
So be patient, for the promise of Allah certainly is true. And do not be disturbed by those who have no sure faith.
So have patience (O Muhammad)! Allah's promise is the very truth, and let not those who have no certainty make thee impatient.
Remain, then, patient in adversity: verily, Gods promise [of resurrection] is true indeed - so let not those who are devoid of all inner certainty disquiet thy mind!
Therefore have patience undoubtedly, the promise of Allah is true, and let not those who have no conviction make you light.
So be steadfast. Verily, the promise of Allah is true. And let not those who lack certitude of faith enfeeble you (on account of the grief over their straying and discomfort for their guidance. O life of the universe, let not their disbelief become a grief consuming your soul)
