Alif-Lãm-Mĩm-Ra. These are the verses of the Book. What has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ from your Lord is the truth, but most people do not believe.

Alif-Lam Mim Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and that which has been sent from your Lord is the truth, but most men believe not.

Alif, Lam, Mim, Ra. (Only Allah and the Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him] know the real meaning.) These are the Verses of the Book of Allah, and whatever has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most people do not believe

It is Allah Who has raised the heavens without pillars—as you can see—then established Himself on the Throne. He has subjected the sun and the moon, each orbiting for an appointed term. He conducts the whole affair. He makes the signs clear so that you may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

Allah it is Who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

It is God who has raised the heavens without any supports that you could see, and is established on the throne of His almightiness; and He [it is who] has made the sun and the moon subservient [to His laws], each running its course for a term set [by Him]. He governs all that exists. Clearly does He spell out these messages, so that you might be certain in your innermost that you are destined to meet your Sustainer [on Judgment Day].

Allah is He who raised up the heavens without the pillars that you can see, and then He settled Himself on the throne as is befitting to His Dignity and made the sun and the moon subservient. Each one runs to a term stated. Allah plans the work and details the signs so that you may believe the meeting with your Lord.

Allah is He Who has raised the heavens aloft (in space) without pillars (as) you see; then He established His authority on the Throne (encompassing the entire universe befitting His glory) and fettered the sun and the moon to a system, each moving (in its respective orbit to complete its rotation) during its appointed term. He alone devises strategies for the total system (of the entire universe), and vividly manifests (all the) signs (or the laws of nature) so that you may develop firm faith in appearing before your Lord

And He is the One Who spread out the earth and placed firm mountains and rivers upon it, and created fruits of every kind in pairs. He covers the day with night. Surely in this are signs for those who reflect.

And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing streams, and of all fruits He placed therein two spouses (male and female). He covereth the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought.

And it is He who has spread the earth wide and placed on it firm mountains and running waters, and created thereon two sexes of every [kind of] plant; [and it is He who] causes the night to cover the day. Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for people who think!

And it is He who stretched the earth and made therein anchors and rivers, and He made two kinds of every fruit in the earth. He covers the night with the day. No doubt in that are signs for a people who reflect

And He is the One Who spread out the earth (despite its being round) and brought about mountains and rivers in it and produced pairs of (genders) two each amongst all kinds of fruits (as well. He is the One Who) stretches the cover of the night over the day. Indeed, there are (many) signs in it for those who meditate

And on the earth there are ˹different˺ neighbouring tracts, gardens of grapevines, ˹various˺ crops, palm trees—some stemming from the same root, others standing alone. They are all irrigated with the same water, yet We make some taste better than others. Surely in this are signs for those who understand.

And in the Earth are neighbouring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and date-palms, like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And we have made some of them to excel others in fruit. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who have sense.

And there are on earth [many] tracts of land close by one another [and yet widely differing from one another]; and [there are on it] vinyards, and fields of grain, and date-palms growing in clusters from one root or standing alone, [all] watered with the same water: and yet, some of them have We favoured above others by way of the food [which they provide for man and beast]. Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for people who use their reason!

And there are different regions adjoining each other, and there are gardens of grapes and are corn fields and palm trees growing from one base and separately, all are watered with one water and in fruits, We make one to excel the other. No doubt, in that are signs for wise people.

And there are, in the earth, tracts (of different kinds) that are adjacent to each other and the gardens of grapes and crops and palm trees, clustered and non-clustered. All these are irrigated with the same water. And (despite that) We make some of them superior to others in taste. Verily, there are (great) signs in it for the people who apply reason

˹Now,˺ if anything should amaze you ˹O Prophet˺, then it is their question: “When we are reduced to dust, will we really be raised as a new creation?” It is they who have disbelieved in their Lord. It is they who will have shackles around their necks. And it is they who will be the residents of the Fire. They will be there forever.

And if thou wonderest, then wondrous is their saying: When we are dust, are we then forsooth (to be raised) in a new creation? Such are they who disbelieve in their Lord; such have carcans on their necks; such are rightful owners of the Fire, they will abide therein.

BUT IF thou art amazed [at the marvels of God's creation], amazing, too, is their saying, "What! After we have become dust, shall we indeed be [restored to life] in a new act of creation?" It is they who [thus show that they] are bent on denying their Sustainer; and it is they who carry the shackles [of their own making] around their necks; and it is they who are destined for the fire, therein to abide.

And if you wonder, then wondrous indeed is their saying that shall we be made a-new after being dust? Those are they who denied their Lord, and those are they who will have shackles round their necks. And those are the people of Hell wherein they shall abide.

And if you are surprised (at the denial of the disbelievers), then (more) surprising is that they say: ‘What, when we become dust (after death), shall we then be created anew?’ They are the ones who deny their Lord, and they alone will have shackles around their necks. And they are the ones who are the inmates of Hell. They will reside in it forever

They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ to hasten the torment rather than grace, though there have ˹already˺ been ˹many˺ torments before them. Surely your Lord is full of forgiveness for people, despite their wrongdoing, and your Lord is truly severe in punishment.

And they bid thee hasten on the evil rather than the good, when exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But lo! thy Lord is rich in pardon for mankind despite their wrong, and lo! thy Lord is strong in punishment.

And [since, O Prophet, they are bent on denying the truth,] they challenge thee to hasten the coming upon them of evil instead of [hoping for] good although [they ought to know that] the exemplary punishments [which they now deride] have indeed come to pass before their time. Now, behold, thy Sustainer is full of forgiveness unto men despite all their evildoing: but, behold, thy Sustainer is [also] truly severe in retribution!

And they ask you for hastening the torment before mercy and the punishment of those before them have already occurred. And verily your Lord awards forgiveness even on the injustices of the people. And no doubt, the torment of your Lord is severe.

And they hasten to demand from you punishment before mercy though many torments have passed before them. And, (O Beloved,) your Lord is Most Forgiving to the people despite their (oppression and) injustice. But certainly, your Lord is Severe in punishment (as well)

The disbelievers say, “If only a sign could be sent down to him from his Lord.” You ˹O Prophet˺ are only a warner. And every people had a guide.

Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide.

However, they who are bent on denying the truth [refuse to believe and] say, "Why has no miraculous sign ever been bestowed on him from on high by his Sustainer?" [But] thou art only a warmer; and [in God] all people have a guide.

And the infidels say, 'why has not a sign been sent down upon him from his Lord. You are only a warner and a guide to every people.

And the disbelievers say: ‘Why has any sign not been sent down to this (Messenger) from his Lord?’ (O My Glorious Messenger!) You are only a warner (to the disobedient of their evil consequences) and a provider of guidance to every community (of the world)

Allah knows what every female bears and what increases and decreases in the wombs. And with Him everything is determined with precision.

Allah knoweth that which every female beareth and that which the wombs absorb and that which they grow. And everything with Him is measured.

God knows what any female bears [in her womb], and by how much the wombs may fall short [in gestation], and by how much they may increase [the average period]: for with Him everything is [created] in accordance with its scope and purpose.

Allah knows whatever is in the womb of any female and whatever the wombs diminish and whatever they increase. And everything with Him is with proper estimate

Allah knows what every female bears in her womb, and how much the wombs contract and how much they distend, and with Him is everything in a fixed measure

˹He is the˺ Knower of the seen and the unseen—the All-Great, Most Exalted.

He is the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Great, the High Exalted.

He knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind -the Great One, the One far above anything that is or could ever be!

Knower of every hidden and open, The Greatest, The Exalted.

He is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Great (and) the Most Exalted

It is the same ˹to Him˺ whether any of you speaks secretly or openly, whether one hides in the darkness of night or goes about in broad daylight.

Alike of you is he who hideth the saying and he who noiseth it abroad, he who lurketh in the night and he who goeth freely in the daytime.

It is all alike [to Him] whether any of you conceals his thought or brings it into the open, and whether he seeks to hide [his evil deeds] under the cover of night or walks [boldly] in the light of day,

All are alike, one who among you conceals his talks and one who utters openly, and one who hides himself in the night and one who walks by day.

He amongst you who talks in a low voice, and the other who talks in a loud voice, and he who is hidden in (the darkness of) the night, and he who moves about in the day(light), all are alike (to Him)

11

For each one there are successive angels before and behind, protecting them by Allah’s command. Indeed, Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state ˹of faith˺. And if it is Allah’s Will to torment a people, it can never be averted, nor can they find a protector other than Him.

For him are angels ranged before him and behind him, who guard him by Allah's command. Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts; and if Allah willeth misfortune for a folk there is none that can repel it, nor have they a defender beside Him.

[thinking that] he has hosts of helpers-both such as can be perceived by him and such as are hidden from him -that could preserve him from whatever God may have willed. Verily, God does not change men's condition unless they change their inner selves; and when God wills people to suffer evil [in consequence of their own evil deeds], there is none who could avert it: for they have none who could protect them from Him.

For man there are angels in succession before and behind him that they watch him by Allah's command, verily Allah alters not His blessing from any people until they themselves alter their condition. And when Allah desires evil to a people, then it cannot be turned back, and besides Him they have no supporter.

For (every) human being there are (angels) coming in succession who, before him and behind him, guard him by the command of Allah. Verily, Allah does not change the state of a people until they bring about a change in themselves. And when Allah intends to torment a people (due to their own evil works), then none can avert it. Nor is there any helper for them apart from Allah

12

He is the One Who shows you lightning, inspiring ˹you with˺ hope and fear, and produces heavy clouds.

He it is Who showeth you the lightning, a fear and a hope, and raiseth the heavy clouds.

HE IT IS who displays before you the lightning, to give rise to [both] fear and hope, and calls heavy clouds into being;

It is He Who shows you the lightning for fear and hope and raises the heavy clouds.

He is the One Who, to rouse in you (sometimes) fear and (some other times) hope, shows you lightning, and (at times) raises (rain-laden) heavy clouds

13

The thunder glorifies His praises, as do the angels in awe of Him. He sends thunderbolts, striking with them whoever He wills. Yet they dispute about Allah. And He is tremendous in might.

The thunder hymneth His praise and (so do) the angels for awe of Him. He launcheth the thunderbolts and smiteth with them whom He will while they dispute (in doubt) concerning Allah, and He is mighty in wrath.

and the thunder extols His limitless glory and praises Him, and [so do] the angels, in awe of Him; and He [it is who] lets loose the thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills. And yet, they stubbornly argue about God, notwithstanding [all evidence] that He alone has the power to contrive whatever His unfathomable wisdom wills!

And the thunder praising Him proclaims His Holiness and the messengers with His awe, and sends thunderbolts then smites therewith whom. He wills while they are disputing about Allah. And His grip is severe.

And the thunder (of clouds and lightning or the angel appointed over it) and all angels glorify Him with His praise out of His fear. And He sends thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills. And they (the disbelievers, despite these signs of His Might,) dispute about Allah. And He is Stern in strategy and Severe in grip

14

Calling upon Him ˹alone˺ is the truth. But those ˹idols˺ the pagans invoke besides Him ˹can˺ never respond to them in any way. ˹It is˺ just like someone who stretches out their hands to water, ˹asking it˺ to reach their mouths, but it can never do so. The calls of the disbelievers are only in vain.

Unto Him is the real prayer. Those unto whom they pray beside Allah respond to them not at all, save as (is the response to) one who stretcheth forth his hands toward water (asking) that it may come unto his mouth, and it will never reach it. The prayer of disbelievers goeth (far) astray.

Unto Him [alone] is due all prayer aiming at the Ultimate Truth, since those [other beings or powers] whom men invoke instead of God cannot respond to them in any way - [so that he who invokes them is] but like one who stretches his open hands towards water, [hoping] that it will reach his mouth, the while it never reaches him. Hence, the prayer of those who deny the truth amounts to no more than losing oneself in grievous error.

Calling to Him alone is true, and those whom they call upon beside Him, hear them not at all, but like him ' who is sitting stretching his hands before the water that it may reach his mouth, and it will never reach it. And every prayer of the infidels loses its way.

Calling towards the truth (i.e., the Oneness of Allah) is for Him alone. And those (false gods—idols) they (disbelievers) worship besides Him cannot give them any answer at all. Their example is like the one who (sits) stretching both his palms towards water so that it may reach his mouth (itself), but it (the water) reaches not (like this). And (in like manner) the praying of disbelievers (to idols and their idol-worship) is but a distraction

To Allah ˹alone˺ bow down ˹in submission˺ all those in the heavens and the earth—willingly or unwillingly—as do their shadows, morning and evening.

And unto Allah falleth prostrate whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows in the morning and the evening hours.

And before God prostrate themselves, willingly or unwillingly, all [things and beings] that are in the heavens and on earth, as do their shadows in the mornings and the evenings.

And to Allah alone prostrates as many there are in the. Heavens and earth willingly or unwillingly and their shadows too every morning and evening. [^] (SAJDA

And whoever is in the heavens and the earth prostrates himself before Allah, (some) willingly and (others) perforce, and their shadows (too prostrate themselves before Him) morning and evening. (Then why do the disbelievers do idol-worship, turning away from Allah?

Ask ˹them, O Prophet˺, “Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?” Say, “Allah!” Ask ˹them˺, “Why ˹then˺ have you taken besides Him lords who cannot even benefit or protect themselves?” Say, “Can the blind and the sighted be equal? Or can darkness and light be equal?” Or have they associated with Allah partners who ˹supposedly˺ produced a creation like His, leaving them confused between the two creations? Say, “Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.”

Say (O Muhammad): Who is Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. Say: Take ye then (others) beside Him for protectors, which, even for themselves, have neither benefit nor hurt? Say: Is the blind man equal to the seer, or is darkness equal to light? Or assign they unto Allah partners who created the like of His creation so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Almighty.

Say: "Who is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "[It is] God." Say: "[Why,] then, do you take for your protectors, instead of Him, such as have it not within their power to bring benefit to, or avert harm from, themselves?" Say: "Can the blind and the seeing be deemed equal? -or can the depths of darkness and the light be deemed equal?" Or do they [really] believe that there are, side by side with God, other divine powers that have created the like of what He creates, so that this act of creation appears to them to be similar [to His]? Say: "God is the Creator of all things; and He is the One who holds absolute sway over all that exists."

Say you, 'who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Say yourself, ''Allah'. Say you, 'Have you then made supporters beside Allah, who can neither do good or evil even to themselves? Say you; will the blind and the seeing be equaled? Or will the darkness and the light be equaled? "Or have they setup such associates with Allah who have made something as Allah has made, then the making of Him and of theirs looked similar to them'' Say you, 'Allah alone is the Creator of everything and He is the One' Dominant over all.'

Say (to these disbelievers): ‘Who is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?’ Say (yourself): ‘Allah.’ (Again) ask (them): ‘Have you taken besides Allah (these idols) as your protectors who cannot control any profit or loss even for themselves?’ Say: ‘Can the blind and the seeing be equal? Or can darkness and light be the same? Have they associated such partners with Allah that have also created (some creation) themselves similar to that of Allah, so this creation (created by these idols) has caused them doubt of resemblance (i.e., error of judgment that they too could create as Allah does)?’ Say: ‘Allah alone is the Creator of everything. And He is One. He is Dominant over all.

He sends down rain from the sky, causing the valleys to flow, each according to its capacity. The currents then carry along rising foam, similar to the slag produced from metal that people melt in the fire for ornaments or tools. This is how Allah compares truth to falsehood. The ˹worthless˺ residue is then cast away, but what benefits people remains on the earth. This is how Allah sets forth parables.

He sendeth down water from the sky, so that valleys flow according to their measure, and the flood beareth (on its surface) swelling foam - from that which they smelt in the fire in order to make ornaments and tools riseth a foam like unto it - thus Allah coineth (the similitude of) the true and the false. Then, as for the foam, it passeth away as scum upon the banks, while, as for that which is of use to mankind, it remaineth in the earth. Thus Allah coineth the similitudes.

[Whenever] He sends down water from the sky, and [once-dry] river-beds are running high according to their measure, the stream carries scum on its surface; and, likewise, from that [metal] which they smelt in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, [there rises] scum. In this way does God set forth the parable of truth and falsehood: for, as far as the scum is concerned, it passes away as [does all] dross; but that which is of benefit to man abides on earth. In this way does God set forth the parables

He sent down water from the sky. then the channels flow according to its capacity, then the flux of water carried with it the swelling foam, and from that over which they kindle a fire for making ornaments or other goods arises foams similar to it. Thus Allah illustrates truth and false hood. Then the foam is blown up and that which benefits mankind remains in the earth. Thus Allah illustrates the examples.

He sends down water from the sky and the valleys flow according to their (respective) capacity. Then the floodwater carries the scum raised to the surface. And the items that are heated in the fire for making ornaments or other articles also have foam that comes up the same way. Thus Allah illustrates examples of the truth and falsehood. So, (whether produced by water or by fire,) the foam or scum passes away useless, but what is beneficial to the people endures in the earth. That is how Allah illustrates examples

Those who respond to ˹the call of˺ their Lord will have the finest reward. As for those who do not respond to Him, even if they were to possess everything in the world twice over, they would certainly offer it to ransom themselves. They will face strict judgment, and Hell will be their home. What an evil place to rest!

For those who answered Allah's call is bliss; and for those who answered not His call, if they had all that is in the earth, and therewith the like thereof, they would proffer it as ransom. Such will have a woeful reckoning, and their habitation will be hell, a dire abode.

of those who have responded to their Sustainer with a goodly response, and of those who did not respond to Him. [As for the latter,] if they possessed all that is on earth, and twice as much, they would surely offer it as ransom [on the Day of Judgment]: a most evil reckoning awaits them, and their goal is hell: and how evil a resting-place!

For those who obeyed the commands of their Lord, there is good. And as for those who obeyed not His commands. If they had all that is in the earth, and the more like of it would have been in their possession, then they would have offered it for their ransom. These are they who will have an evil reckoning, and their abode is Hell. And what an evil place of rest.

For those who accept the command of their Lord, there is the excellent outcome. And those who reject His command, even though they possess all that is in the earth, and the like of it added to that, and they offer it as ransom (to be delivered from the torment, even then) they are the ones whose accountability will be horrible. And Hell is their abode, and that is a wretched abode

Can the one who knows that your Lord’s revelation to you ˹O Prophet˺ is the truth be like the one who is blind? None will be mindful ˹of this˺ except people of reason.

Is he who knoweth that what is revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the truth like him who is blind? But only men of understanding heed;

CAN, THEN, he who knows that whatever has been bestowed from on high upon thee by thy Sustainer is the truth be deemed equal to one who is blind? Only they who are endowed with insight keep this in mind:

Shall he then who knows that what has been sent to you from your Lord is truth be like him who is blind? Only those who have wisdom accept admonition.

Someone who knows that whatever has been revealed to you is the truth, can he be like the one who is blind? Truly it is only those endowed with wisdom who accept admonition

Allah gives abundant or limited provisions to whoever He wills. And the disbelievers become prideful of ˹the pleasures of˺ this worldly life. But the life of this world, compared to the Hereafter, is nothing but a fleeting enjoyment.

Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter.

GOD GRANTS abundant sustenance, or gives it in scant measure, unto whomever He wills; and they [who are given abundance] rejoice in the life of this world - even though, as compared with the life to come, the life of this world is nought but -a fleeting pleasure.

Allah increases the provision for whom He will and also He straitens, and the infidels were strut with the life of the world. And the life of the world is nothing in comparison to the life of the Hereafter but to pull on for some days.

Allah releases the provision abundantly for whom He pleases and restrains (for whom He wills). And these (disbelievers) are greatly charmed by the worldly life whereas, in contrast with the life in the Hereafter, the worldly life is nothing but a worthless provision

And so We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ to a community, like ˹We did with˺ earlier communities, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they deny the Most Compassionate. Say, “He is my Lord! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. In Him I put my trust, and to Him I turn ˹in repentance˺.”

Thus We send thee (O Muhammad) unto a nation, before whom other nations have passed away, that thou mayst recite unto them that which We have inspired in thee, while they are disbelievers in the Beneficent. Say: He is my Lord; there is no Allah save Him. In Him do I put my trust and unto Him is my recourse.

Thus have We raised thee [O Muhammad] as Our Apostle amidst a community [of unbelievers] before whose time [similar] communities have come and gone, so that thou might propound to them what We have revealed unto thee: for [in their ignorance] they deny the Most Gracious! Say: "He is my Sustainer. There is no deity save Him. In Him have I placed my trust, and unto Him is my recourse!"

Thus We have sent you to a people before whom other peoples have passed in order that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you, and they are rejecting the Most Affectionate, Say you, He is my Lord, none is to be worshiped beside Him. I relied upon Him alone and to Him do I return.'

(O Beloved!) Thus We have sent you (as a Messenger) to an Umma (Community) before whom in fact (all) the communities have passed. (This is now the last of all the communities) so that you may recite to them that (Book) which We have revealed to you. And they are still denying al-Rahman (the Most Kind Lord). Say: ‘He is my Lord. There is no God but He. In Him have I put my trust and I turn towards Him alone.

If there were a recitation that could cause mountains to move, or the earth to split, or the dead to speak, ˹it would have been this Quran˺. But all matters are by Allah’s Will. Have the believers not yet realized that had Allah willed, He could have guided all of humanity? And disasters will continue to afflict the disbelievers or strike close to their homes for their misdeeds, until Allah’s promise comes to pass. Surely Allah never fails in His promise.

Had it been possible for a Lecture to cause the mountains to move, or the earth to be torn asunder, or the dead to speak, (this Qur'an would have done so). Nay, but Allah's is the whole command. Do not those who believe know that, had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind? As for those who disbelieve, disaster ceaseth not to strike them because of what they do, or it dwelleth near their home until the threat of Allah come to pass. Lo! Allah faileth not to keep the tryst.

Yet even if [they should listen to] a [divine] discourse by which mountains could be moved, or the earth cleft asunder, or the dead made to speak - [they who are bent on denying the truth would still refuse to believe in it]! Nay, but God alone has the power to decide what shall be. Have, then, they who have attained to faith not yet come to know that, had God so willed; He would indeed have guided all mankind aright? But as for those who are bent on denying the truth-in result of their [evil] deeds, sudden calamities will always befall them or will alight close to their homes; [and this will continue] until God's promise [of resurrection] is fulfilled: verily, God never fails to fulfil His promise!

If there would have come a Quran by which mountains could be moved or the earth could be cut asunder or the dead could have spoken to, even then too these infidels would not have believed but the entire affair is under the authority of Allah. Did then the Muslims not become disappointed with it that if Allah had willed, He would have guided men all together? And the thump will ever continue to smite the infidels for what they wrought or it will alight near their houses, until Allah's promise comes. Verily Allah does not do against His promise.

And if there were a Qur’an by which mountains could be set in motion, or by which the earth could be split open, or by which the dead could be spoken to (even then they would not believe in it). But all matters are under the control of Allah. Have the believers not yet perceived that if Allah had so willed, He would have guided all mankind? And (some) disaster will continue afflicting the disbelievers due to their misdeeds, or will be alighting close to their homes (i.e., towns) until Allah’s promise (of torment) comes to pass. Surely, Allah does not go against His promise

Other messengers had already been ridiculed before you, but I delayed the disbelievers ˹for a while˺ then seized them. And how ˹horrible˺ was My punishment!

And verily messengers (of Allah) were mocked before thee, but long I bore with those who disbelieved. At length I seized them, and how (awful) was My punishment!

And, indeed, [even] before thy time have [God's] apostles been derided, and for a while I gave rein to those who were [thus] bent on denying the truth: but then I took them to task - and how awesome was My retribution!

And surely, the messengers before you were mocked at, then I let loose the infidels for some days' then I seized them. Then how was My torment.

And indeed the Messengers were mocked (by the disbelievers) before you (as well). So I granted the disbelievers respite and then seized them (with torment). (See) then how My torment was

Is ˹there any equal to˺ the Vigilant One Who knows what every soul commits? Yet the pagans have associated others with Allah ˹in worship˺. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Name them! Or do you ˹mean to˺ inform Him of something He does not know on the earth? Or are these ˹gods˺ just empty words?” In fact, the disbelievers’ falsehood has been made so appealing to them that they have been turned away from the Path. And whoever Allah leaves to stray will be left with no guide.

Is He Who is aware of the deserts of every soul (as he who is aware of nothing)? Yet they ascribe unto Allah partners. Say: Name them. Is it that ye would inform Him of something which He knoweth not in the earth? Or is it but a way of speaking? Nay but their contrivance is made seeming fair for those who disbelieve and they are kept from the right road. He whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide.

IS, THEN, HE who has every living being in His almighty care, [dealing with each] according to what it deserves -[is, then, He like anything else that exists]? And yet, they ascribe to other beings a share in God's divinity! Say: "Give them any name [you please]: but do you [really think that you could] inform Him of anything on earth that He does not know-or [do you] but play with words?, Nay, goodly seems their false imagery to those who are bent on denying the truth, and so they are turned away from the [right] path: and he whom God lets go astray can never find any guide.

Is then He Who watches every soul with his actions?, and yet they ascribe to Allah associates. Say you, 'name them.' Or do you inform Him of what is not in His knowledge in the entire earth. or by the -way an empty saying? Rather their fraud has been made to look good in the eyes of the infidels, and they have been hindered from the way. And he whom Allah leads astray, has no guide.

He (Allah) Who is watching the conduct of every soul and (these idols that the disbelievers) have made peers to Allah—(can they be alike? No way!) Say: ‘(Just) name them. (You fools!) Do you inform Him (Allah) of something whose (existence) He does not know in the whole earth? Or is it all (mere) superficial talk (which has no contact with reality)?’ Rather (the truth is that) the deceptive scheme of the disbelievers has been made fascinating to them, and they have been hindered from the (straight) path. And he whom Allah holds strayed, there is none who can be his guide

For them is punishment in this worldly life, but the punishment of the Hereafter is truly far worse. And none can shield them from Allah.

For them is torment in the life of the world, and verily the doom of the Hereafter is more painful, and they have no defender from Allah.

For such, there is suffering in the life of this world; but, truly, [their] suffering in the life to come will be harder still, and they will have none to shield them from God.

They shall be punished in the life of the world, and verily the torment of the Hereafter is hardest. And they have none to defend from Allah.

There is for them a chastisement in the worldly life (as well), but certainly the torment in the Hereafter is fiercer. And there is none who can rescue them from (the punishment of) Allah

The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that under it rivers flow; eternal is its fruit as well as its shade. That is the ˹ultimate˺ outcome for the righteous. But the outcome for the disbelievers is the Fire!

A similitude of the Garden which is promised unto those who keep their duty (to Allah): Underneath it rivers flow; its food is everlasting, and its shade; this is the reward of those who keep their duty, while the reward of disbelievers is the Fire.

THE PARABLE of the paradise promised to those who are conscious of God [is that of a garden] through which running waters flow: [but, unlike an earthly garden,] its fruits will be everlasting, and [so will be] its shade. Such will be the destiny of those who remain conscious of God-just as the destiny of those who deny the truth will be the fire.

The likeness of the Heaven, which has been, promised to the God-fearing, beneath it streams flow. Its fruits are everlasting and its shade. This is the end of those who fear Allah, and the end of the infidels is the Fire.

A glimpse of the Paradise that has been promised to the Godfearing (depicts that) it has rivers flowing under it; its fruits are everlasting, and so is its shade. This is (the beauty of) the end of those who adopt Godwariness. And the end of the disbelievers is the Fire of Hell

˹The believers among˺ those who were given the Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺, while some ˹disbelieving˺ factions deny a portion of it. Say, “I have only been commanded to worship Allah, associating none with Him ˹in worship˺. To Him I invite ˹all˺, and to Him is my return.”

Those unto whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in that which is revealed unto thee. And of the clans there are who deny some of it. Say: I am commanded only that I serve Allah and ascribe unto Him no partner. Unto Him I cry, and unto Him is my return.

Hence, they unto whom We have vouchsafed this revelation rejoice at all that has been bestowed upon thee [O Prophet] from on high; but among the followers of other creeds there are such as deny the validity of some of it. Say [unto them, O Prophet]: "I have only been bidden to worship God, and not to ascribe divine. powers to aught beside Him: unto Him do I call [all mankind], and He is my goal!"

And those to whom We have given the Book rejoice at what has been sent to you, and of those groups there are some who deny a part thereof. Say you, 'I am only commanded to worship Allah and not to ascribe associate to Him. To Him I call, and to Him is my return.

And those whom We have given the Book (the Torah, if they are true believers, then) they rejoice at this (Qur’an) which has been revealed to you. And also some from amongst their sects are those who deny a part of it. Say: ‘I have been given the command to worship Allah and not to associate (any) partner with Him. I invite towards Him alone, and to Him I shall return.

And so We have revealed it as an authority in Arabic. And if you were to follow their desires after ˹all˺ the knowledge that has come to you, there would be none to protect or shield you from Allah.

Thus have We revealed it, a decisive utterance in Arabic; and if thou shouldst follow their desires after that which hath come unto thee of knowledge, then truly wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor defender.

Thus, then, have We bestowed from on high this [divine writ] as an ordinance in the Arabic tongue. And, indeed, if thou shouldst defer to men's likes and dislikes after all the [divine] knowledge that has come unto thee, thou wouldst have none to protect thee from God, and none to shield thee [from Him].

And thus We have sent it down as a decision in Arabic. And O' listener! if you will follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, then you shall have no supporter nor defender against Allah.

And in like manner, We have revealed this (Qur’an) as a commandment in the Arabic language. And, (O listener,) if you follow the desires of these (disbelievers) after the (conclusive) knowledge has reached you, then there is no helper or protector for you against Allah

We have certainly sent messengers before you ˹O Prophet˺ and blessed them with wives and offspring. It was not for any messenger to bring a sign without Allah’s permission. Every destined matter has a ˹set˺ time.

And verily We sent messengers (to mankind) before thee, and We appointed for them wives and offspring, and it was not (given) to any messenger that he should bring a portent save by Allah's leave. For everything there is a time prescribed.

And, truly, We sent forth apostles before thee, and We appointed for them wives and offspring; and it was not given to any apostle to produce a miracle save at God's behest. Every age has had its revelation:

And no doubt, We have sent messengers before you, and assigned to them wives and children. And it is not for a messenger to bring any sign, but by Allah's leave. For each promise there is writing.

And, (O Messenger,) indeed We sent before you (many) Messengers and brought up for them wives and children (as well). And that is not the role of a Messenger to bring a sign but by Allah’s command. There is an inscription for every appointed term

Allah eliminates and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Master Record.

Allah effaceth what He will, and establisheth (what He will), and with Him is the source of ordinance.

God annuls or confirms whatever He wills [of His earlier messages] -for with Him is the source of all revelation.

Allah wipes out what He pleases and establishes (what He pleases) and the real writing is with Him.

Allah erases whatever (writing) He wills and confirms (whatever He wills). And with Him alone is the Real Book (the Protected Tablet [al-Lawh al-Mahfuz])

Whether We show you ˹O Prophet˺ some of what We threaten them with, or cause you to die ˹before that˺, your duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺. Judgment is for Us.

Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them, or make thee die (before its happening), thine is but conveyance (of the message). Ours the reckoning.

BUT WHETHER We let thee see [in thy lifetime, O Prophet, the fulfilment of] some of what We have promised them, or whether We cause thee to die [before its fulfilment] - thy duty is no more than to deliver the message; and the reckoning is Ours.

And if We show you any promise that is made to them, or We call you to Us before, in any case upon you is only to deliver the message, and on Us is the reckoning.

And whether We show you (during your visible life) a portion (of the torment) that We have promised these (disbelievers), or We lift you (before that?both these options are subject to Our Will). Your assignment is only to communicate (the commandments) and accountability rests with Us

Do they not see that We gradually reduce their land from its borders? Allah decides—none can reverse His decision. And He is swift in reckoning.

See they not how we aim to the land, reducing it of its outlying parts? (When) Allah doometh there is none that can postpone His doom, and He is swift at reckoning.

Have, then, they [who deny the truth] never yet seen how We visit the earth [with Our punishment], gradually depriving it of all that is best thereon? For, [when] God judges, there is no power that could repel His judgment: and swift in reckoning is He!

Do they not see that We are coming diminishing their population from all sides. And Allah commands, there is none to put back His command, and He is swift in reckoning

Do they not see that We are persistently reducing the land (under their control—most of the areas under their rule are gradually accepting the Islamic Rule)? And Allah is the One Who decrees; there is none who can undo His decree. And He is Swift in calling to account

Those ˹disbelievers˺ before them ˹secretly˺ planned, but Allah has the ultimate plan. He knows what every soul commits. And the disbelievers will soon know who will have the ultimate outcome.

Those who were before them plotted; but all plotting is Allah's. He knoweth that which each soul earneth. The disbelievers will come to know for whom will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home.

Now those who lived before these [sinners] did, too, devise many a blasphemy -but the most subtle devising is that of God, who knows what each human being deserves: and the deniers of the truth will [in time] come to know to whom the future belongs.

And those before them have already plotted, but the entire secret plans belong to Allah. He knows what every soul earns. And the infidels are soon to know, who gets the last abode.

And no doubt, those who have passed before them also indulged in deceitful plots. So the power to reverse all these plots (also) rests with Allah. He knows best what every soul is busy earning, and the disbelievers will soon come to know for whom is the home of the Hereafter
