بَابٌ فِي الْوَسْوَسَةِWhispers (Waswasa)

العربية

وَقَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {الْخَنَّاسِ 4 الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ 5 مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ 6} (الناس: ٤-٦) ، وَقَوْلِهِ: {إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ فَاتَّخِذُوهُ عَدُوًّا إِنَّمَا يَدْعُو حِزْبَهُ لِيَكُونُوا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ 6} (فاطر: ٦

English

And the words of Allah the Exalted:

"The retreating whisperer 4 who whispers in the breasts of mankind 5 from among the jinn and mankind." (Surah An-Nas: 4-6)

And His saying:

"Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze." (Surah Fatir: 6)

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ اللهَ تَجَاوَزَ عَنْ أُمَّتِي مَا وَسْوَسَتْ بِهِ صُدُوْرُهَا مَا لَمْ تَعْمَلْ بِهِ أَوْ تَتَكَلَّمْ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Allah has overlooked for my Ummah what their hearts whisper to them, so long as they neither act upon it nor speak of it." [Agreed upon]

وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: جَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ، فَسَأَلُوهُ: إِنَّا نَجِدُ فِي أَنْفُسِنَا مَا يَتَعَاظَمُ أَحَدُنَا أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ بِهِ. قَالَ: «أَوَ قَدْ وَجَدْتُمُوهُ؟» قَالُوا: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: «ذَاكَ صَرِيحُ الْإِيْمَانِ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Some people from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to him and asked, "We find in ourselves thoughts that one of us considers too grave to speak of." He (peace be upon him) asked, "Have you truly experienced this?" They said, "Yes." He (peace be upon him) said, "That is clear faith." [Narrated by Muslim]

وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ : «يَأْتِي الشَّيْطَانُ أَحَدَكُمْ، فَيَقَوْلُ: مَنْ خَلَقَ كَذَا؟ مَنْ خَلَقَ كَذَا؟ حَتَّى يَقُوْلَ : مَنْ خَلَقَ رَبَّكَ؟ فَإِذَا بَلَغَهُ فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Satan comes to one of you and says: 'Who created this? Who created that?' until he says: 'Who created your Lord?' When it reaches this stage, let him seek refuge with Allah and cease such thoughts." [Agreed upon]

وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ يَتَسَاءَلُوْنَ حَتَّى يُقَالَ: هَذَا، خَلَقَ اللهُ الْخَلْقَ، فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللهَ؟ فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَلْيَقُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ وَرُسُلِهِ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "People will continue to ask questions until it is said: 'Who created Allah?' When one of you encounters this, let him say: 'I believe in Allah and His Messengers.'" [Agreed upon: Bukhari and Muslim]

وَعَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا وَقَدْ وُكِّلَ بِهِ قَرِيْنُهُ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَقَرِينُهُ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ». قَالُوا: وَإِيَّاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «وَإِيَّايَ، وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَأَسْلَمَ، فَلَا يَأْمُرُنِي إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

English

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "There is no one among you, but that he has been assigned a companion from the jinn and a companion from the angels." They asked, "And you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "And me, but Allah has helped me against him, and he has submitted, so he only commands me with good." [Narrated by Muslim]

English

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Satan flows through the son of Adam as blood flows through him." [Agreed upon: Bukhari and Muslim]

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَا مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مَوْلُودٌ إِلَّا يَمَسُّهُ الشَّيْطَانُ حِيْنَ يُوْلَدُ، فَيَسْتَهِلُّ صَارِخًا مِنْ مَسِّ الشَّيْطَانِ غَيْرَ مَرْيَمَ وَابْنِهَا». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "There is no child of Adam, except that Satan touches him when he is born, and he cries out when touched by Satan, except for Maryam and her son." [Agreed upon]

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "The crying of the newborn is due to the touch of Satan." [Agreed upon]

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ إِبْلِيْسَ يَضَعُ عَرْشَهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ، ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُ سَرَايَاهُ يَفْتِنُوْنَ النَّاسَ، فَأَدْنَاهُمْ مِنْهُ مَنْزِلَةً أَعْظَمُهُمْ فِتْنَةً، يَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ، فَيَقَوْلُ: فَعَلْتُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَيَقَوْلُ: مَا صَنَعْتَ شَيْئًا. قَالَ: ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ، فَيَقَوْلُ: مَا تَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى فَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ امْرَأَتِهِ. قَالَ: فَيُدْنِيْهِ مِنْهُ، وَيَقُوْلُ: نَعَمْ، أَنْتَ». قَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ: أَرَاهُ قَالَ: «فَيَلْتَزِمُهُ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

English

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water, and then he sends out his troops to cause division among people. The closest to him in position is the one who causes the greatest trial. One of them comes and says: 'I did such and such,' and he replies: 'You have done nothing.' Then one of them comes and says: 'I did not leave him until I caused division between him and his wife.' He draws him close and says: 'Yes, you.' And then he embraces him." [Narrated by Muslim]

وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ أَيْسَ مِنْ أَنْ يَعْبُدَهُ الْمُصَلُّوْنَ فِي جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ، وَلَكِنْ فِي التَّحْرِيشِ بَيْنَهُمْ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

English

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray in the Arabian Peninsula, but he seeks to create division among them."[Narrated by Muslim]

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (رضي الله عنهما) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُحَدِّثُ نَفْسِي بِالشَّيْءِ لَأَنْ أَكُوْنَ حُمَمَةً أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ بِهِ، قَالَ: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ أَمْرَهُ إِلَى الْوَسْوَسَةِ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.

English

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "I find myself thinking about things, and I would rather become a burnt ember than speak of them." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Praise be to Allah, Who has returned his affair to whispers." [Narrated by Abu Dawood]

وَعَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُوْدٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ لِلشَّيْطَانِ لَمَّةً بِابْنِ آدَمَ وَلِلْمَلَكِ لَمَّةً. فَأَمَّا لَمَّةُ الشَّيْطَانِ: فَإِيْعَادٌ بِالشَّرِّ وَتَكْذِيْبٌ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَمَّا لَمَّةُ الْمَلَكِ: فَإِيْعَادٌ بِالْخَيْرِ وَتَصْدِيقٌ بِالْحَقِّ، فَمَنْ وَجَدَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مِنَ اللهِ، فَلْيَحْمَدِ اللهَ وَمَنْ وَجَدَ الْأُخْرَى فَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّحِيمِ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: {الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُم بِالْفَحْشَاءِ} (البقرة: ٢٦٨). رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ. وَقَالَ: هَذَا حَدِيْثٌ غَرِيبٌ.

English

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Satan has a whisper in the son of Adam, and the angel has a whisper. As for the whisper of Satan, it is one of evil and denial of the truth. As for the whisper of the angel, it is one of good and affirmation of the truth. So whoever finds this should know that it is from Allah, so he should praise Allah. And whoever finds the other, let him seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed."

Then he recited: {Satan threatens you with poverty and commands you to commit immoralities.} (Al-Baqarah 2:268) [Narrated by Tirmidhi, who said: This is a strange hadith]

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) عَن رَسُوْلِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ يَتَسَاءَلُوْنَ حَتَّى يُقَالَ: هَذَا، خَلَقَ اللهُ الْخَلْقَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللهَ؟ فَإِذَا قَالُوا ذَلِكَ فَقُوْلُوْا: اللهُ أَحَدٌ، اللهُ الصَّمَدُ، لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ، ثُمَّ لِيَنْقُلْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثًا، وَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.

English

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "People will continue to ask questions until it is said: 'This, Allah created the creation, so who created Allah?' When they say that, say: 'Allah is One, Allah is the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, and there is none comparable to Him.' Then, turn to your left three times and seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan." [Narrated by Abu Dawood]

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ : «لَنْ يَبْرَحَ النَّاسُ يَتَسَاءَلُوْنَ حَتَّى يَقُوْلُوْا: هَذَا، اللهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللهَ عَزَّوَجَلَّ ؟» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ. وَلِمُسْلِمٍ: قَالَ: «قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّوَجَلَّ : إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا يَزَالُوْنَ يَقُوْلُوْنَ: مَا كَذَا؟ مَا كَذَا؟ حَتَّى يَقُوْلُوْا: هَذَا، اللهُ خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللهَ عَزَّوَجَلَّ».

English

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "People will continue to ask questions until it is said: 'This, Allah created everything, so who created Allah?' [Narrated by Bukhari]

And in a narration by Muslim: He said, "Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: 'Your nation will continue to say, "What is this? What is this?" until they say: "This, Allah created the creation, so who created Allah, Blessed and Exalted?"

وَعَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ حَالَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ صَلَاتِي وَبَيْنَ قِرَاءَتِي يُلَبِّسُهَا عَلَيَّ. فَقَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ «ذَاكَ شَيْطَانٌ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: خِنْزَبٌ، فَإِذَا أَحْسَسْتَهُ فَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللّهِ مِنْهُ، وَاتْفُلْ عَلَى يَسَارِكَ ثَلَاثًا». فَفَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَذْهَبَهُ اللهُ عَنِّي رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

English

Uthman ibn Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Satan has placed a barrier between me and my prayer and between me and my recitation. He confuses it for me." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "That is Satan, called Khanzab. When you feel him, seek refuge with Allah from him and spit lightly to your left three times." So I did that, and Allah removed him from me. [Narrated by Muslim]

وَعَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ : أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَهِمُ فِي صَلَاتِي فَيَكْبُرُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ. فَقَالَ لَهُ: امْضِ فِي صَلَاتِكَ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَذْهَبَ ذَلِكَ عَنْكَ حَتَّى تَنْصَرِفَ وَأَنْتَ تَقُوْلُ: مَا أَتْمَمْتُ صَلَاتِي. رَوَاهُ مَالِكُ.

English

Qasim ibn Muhammad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man asked him, saying, "I am troubled by whispers in my prayer, and it becomes difficult for me." He said to him, "Continue with your prayer; that will not go away until you conclude it, and you will say: 'I did not complete my prayer.'" [Narrated by Malik]
