The Prophet (ﷺ) wept, and when the people saw him weeping, they also wept. He said, 'Do you not hear? Allah does not punish for the tears of the eyes or the grief of the heart, but He punishes or shows mercy because of this,' and he pointed to his tongue. 'Indeed, the deceased is punished by the wailing of his family over him.'" [Agreed upon] 1
Notes /
1 The statement: "Indeed, the deceased is punished by the wailing of his family over him." In Ad-Durr Al-Mukhtar, it is said: "The deceased is only punished by the wailing of his family if he had instructed them to do so." In Radd Al-Muhtar, it is said: "The interpretation of this Hadith is that people at that time used to instruct others to wail, so the Prophet (ﷺ) said this." This is mentioned in Al-Bahr, quoting Az-Zahirah.

Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, 'Whoever is wailed over will be punished on the Day of Resurrection because of the wailing over him.'" [Agreed upon]
Allah, the Almighty, says: "And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the night." (Quran 2:187)
2 The statement: "Then complete the fast until the night." The word "thumma" (then) indicates a delay, meaning the obligation begins after dawn without fail, as the night does not end except with a portion of the day. However, we permit the intention to fast to be made before dawn based on the Sunnah. As for the claim that the night is the basis for the intention and that it is prohibited during the day, as Al-Shafi’i claimed, this is not the case. This verse also serves as evidence for the prohibition of continuous fasting (Wisal), as explicitly stated in Al-Kashshaf and Al-Madarik. This is mentioned in Al-Tafsirat Al-Ahmadiyyah.

He then informed her that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said, 'I disassociate myself from those who shave their heads, wail loudly, and tear their clothes.'" [Agreed upon, with the wording from Muslim]

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prohibited following a funeral accompanied by wailing." [Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah] 1
Notes /
1 The statement: "Prohibited following." In Ad-Durr Al-Mukhtar, it is said: "It is disliked (Makruh Tahrimi) for women to go out (to funerals), and the wailing woman should be reprimanded. However, the funeral should not be abandoned because of her." In Radd Al-Muhtar, it is said, quoting Abu As-Su'ud: "The apparent meaning is that following her refers to walking with her in general, not specifically walking behind her. Rather, one should avoid walking behind her if she is wailing, as mentioned in Al-Ikhtiyar. This reconciles the matter."

1 The statement: "He sat down, visibly sad." Al-Baqali said: "There is no harm in sitting for condolences for three days in a house or mosque. The Prophet (ﷺ) sat when Ja'far and Zayd ibn Harithah were killed, and people came to console him. Offering condolences on the first day is best. Sitting in the mosque for three days for condolences is disliked, but in other places, it is permissible for men for three days, though avoiding it is better. It is disliked for the consoler to offer condolences a second time." This is mentioned in Al-Bahr Ar-Ra'iq. In Al-Alamgiriyyah, it is said: "There is no harm for the bereaved to sit in their house or mosque for three days, and people come to console them. However, sitting at the door of the house or spreading carpets and standing at crossroads, as done in non-Arab lands, is among the worst practices." This is mentioned in Az-Zahirah and Al-Binayah. Ali Al-Qari said: "The apparent meaning of the Hadith is that his sitting in the mosque was for condolences, but Ibn Al-Humam said: 'It is permissible to sit for a calamity for three days, though it is disliked in the mosque.' This may be understood as specific to him, to show its permissibility, or his sitting in the mosque was coincidental." In Radd Al-Muhtar, quoting Al-Imdad: "Many of our later scholars said: 'It is disliked to gather at the bereaved's house, and it is disliked for him to sit in his house until people come to console him. Rather, after the burial, people should disperse and attend to their affairs, and the bereaved should attend to his.'"
