بَابُ مَا يَقُوْلُ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِWhat to Say When Rising at Night
وَقَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: ﴿وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ ) (المزمل: ۸
And the saying of Allah, the Almighty: "And remember the name of your Lord." (Quran 73:8)
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسِ (رضي الله عنهما) قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَتَهَجَّدُ، قَالَ: اللهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ نُوْرُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيْهِنَّ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ مَلِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيْهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ، وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ، وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّبِيُّوْنَ حَقٌّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ حَقٌّ، وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ.
اللهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "When the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood at night for Tahajjud, he would say: 'O Allah, to You is all praise. You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You is all praise. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You is all praise. You are the King of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You is all praise. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, Your word is true, Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Prophets are true, Muhammad is true, and the Hour is true. O Allah, to You I have submitted, in You I have believed, upon You I have relied, to You I have turned, for Your sake I have disputed, and to You I have appealed for judgment. Forgive me for what I have sent ahead and what I have left behind, what I have concealed and what I have declared, and for what You know better than I. You are the One who brings forward and delays. There is no god but You, and there is no god besides You.'" [Agreed upon]
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ افْتَتَحَ صَلَاتَهُ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ رَبَّ جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَاثِيْلَ وَإِسْرَافِيْلَ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، أَنْتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِيمَا كَانُوْا فِيْهِ يَخْتَلِفُوْنَ، اهْدِنِي لِمَا اخْتُلِفَ فِيْهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِكَ، إِنَّكَ تَهْدِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "When the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood at night to pray, he would begin his prayer by saying: 'O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mikail, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You judge between Your servants in what they differ. Guide me to the truth in what they differ by Your permission. Indeed, You guide whom You will to a straight path.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ كَبَّرَ، ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُ: «سُبْحَانَكَ اللهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ». ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُ: «اللهُ أَكْبَرُ كَبِيرًا»، ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُ: «أَعُوْذُ بِاللهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّحِيمِ مِنْ هَمْزِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ. وَزَادَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ بَعْدَ قَوْلِهِ: «غَيْرُكَ»: ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَفِي آخِرِ الْحَدِيْثِ: «ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ».
Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood at night, he would say the Takbir, then say: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.' Then he would say: 'Allahu Akbar Kabira,' then say: 'I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his arrogance, and his poetry.'" [Narrated by Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and Nasa’i]
Abu Dawud added: "Then he would say: 'There is no god but Allah' three times, and at the end of the Hadith: 'Then he would recite.'"
وَعَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ كَعْبِ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَبِيْتُ عِنْدَ حُجْرَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَكُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَقُوْلُ: سُبْحَانَ رَبِّ الْعَالِمِينَ الْهَوِيَّ»، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: «سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ الْهَوِيَّ». رَوَاهُ النَّسَائِيُّ، وَلِلتَّرْمِذِي نَحْوهُ. وَقَالَ: هَذَا حَدِيْثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Rabi’ah ibn Ka’b Al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "I used to spend the night near the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) chamber, and I would hear him when he stood at night saying: 'Glory be to the Lord of the worlds,' repeatedly, then he would say: 'Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him,' repeatedly." [Narrated by Nasa’i, and Tirmidhi reported something similar, saying: "This is a Hasan Sahih Hadith."]
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ اللهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِذَنْبِي، وَأَسْأَلُكَ رَحْمَتَكَ، اللهُمَّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا، وَلَا تُزِغْ قَلْبِي بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنِي، وَهَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) woke up at night, he would say: 'There is no god but You, glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I seek Your forgiveness for my sins and ask for Your mercy. O Allah, increase me in knowledge, and do not let my heart deviate after You have guided me. Grant me mercy from Yourself, for You are the Bestower.'" [Narrated by Abu Dawud]
وَعَنْ شَرِيْقِ الْهَوْزَنِي قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) فَسَأَلْتُهَا: بِمَ كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ يَفْتَتِحُ إِذَا هَبَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَتْ: سَأَلْتَنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكَ، كَانَ إِذَا هَبَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ كَبَّرَ عَشْرًا ، وَقَالَ: «سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ عَشْرًا، وَقَالَ: «سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوْسِ عَشْرًا، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ عَشْرًا، وَهَلَّلَ اللهَ عَشْرًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيْقِ الدُّنْيَا، وَضِيْقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ» عَشْرًا، ثُمَّ يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلَاةَ. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.
Shariq Al-Hawzani reported: "I entered upon Aisha and asked her: 'How did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) begin when he woke up at night?' She said: 'You have asked me something no one has asked me before. When he woke up at night, he would say the Takbir ten times, then say: 'Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him' ten times, then say: 'Glory be to the King, the Holy' ten times, then seek Allah’s forgiveness ten times, then say the Tahlil ten times, then say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Judgment' ten times, then he would begin his prayer.'" [Narrated by Abu Dawud]
وَعَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ تَعَارَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ، أَوْ قَالَ: «ثُمَّ دَعَا اسْتُجِيْبَ لَهُ، فَإِنْ تَوَضَّأَ وَصَلَّى قُبِلَتْ صَلَاتُهُ». رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيَّ.
Ubadah ibn As-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever wakes up at night and says: 'There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him is all praise. He is over all things competent. Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah,' then says: 'O Lord, forgive me,' or makes a supplication, his supplication will be answered. If he performs ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted.'" [Narrated by Bukhari]
وَعَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَبِيْتُ عَلَى ذِكْرٍ طَاهِرًا، فَيَتَعَارُّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَيَسْأَلُ اللهَ خَيْرًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ اللهُ إِيَّاهُ». رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ.
Mu’adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There is no Muslim who goes to bed remembering Allah in a state of purity, then wakes up at night and asks Allah for something good, except that Allah will grant it to him.'"
