English

Narrated by Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Imran bin Husayn: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Whoever performs Ghusl on the day of Friday, his sins and mistakes will be forgiven. And when he walks to the mosque, for every step he takes, twenty good deeds are recorded for him." [Narrated by At-Tabarani in both the larger and smaller collections]

In a narration by Ibn Hibban, it states: "Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday will remain pure until the next Friday."

English

Narrated by 'Ikrimah: Some people from Iraq came and said, "O Ibn Abbas, do you think that Ghusl on the day of Friday is obligatory?" He replied: "No, but it is purer and better for those who perform it. And for those who do not perform it, it is not obligatory." He continued, "Let me tell you how Ghusl began: The people were exhausted, wearing woolen garments, working on their backs, and the mosque was narrow, almost with a roof. One hot day, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out, and the people sweated in their woolen garments, causing an unpleasant odor among them. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) noticed this, he said: 'O people, when this day comes, perform Ghusl and use the best of your oils and perfumes.' Ibn Abbas added: 'Then Allah brought goodness, and they stopped wearing wool, ceased working, expanded their mosque, and the unpleasant odors that disturbed one another disappeared.'

English

Narrated by Hammad from Ibrahim Al-Nakh'i, he said: I asked him about Ghusl on Friday, after cupping, and on the two Eid days. He replied: "If you perform Ghusl, it is good, but if you leave it, there is no harm." I said: "Did not the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'Whoever goes to the Friday prayer should perform Ghusl'?" He replied: "Yes, but it is not an obligatory matter. It is like His saying: 'And when you contract a sale, call witnesses, and whoever witnesses, it is good; but if someone does not, there is no harm.' And it is like His saying: 'And when the prayer is concluded, disperse through the earth' (Al-Jumu'ah: 10). Whoever disperses, there is no harm, and whoever sits, there is no harm."
