English

Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), who saw some people praying Duha and said: "They surely know that prayer at another time is better. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The prayer of the penitent is when the young camels feel the heat of the sun.'" 1 [Narrated by Muslim]

Notes /
English notes

1 The statement "The prayer of the penitent is when the young camels feel the heat of the sun" is explained in Ad-Durr Al-Mukhtar: "It is recommended to pray four or more rak'ahs of Duha from after sunrise until midday. The preferred time is after a quarter of the day has passed." In Al-Munyah, it is stated: "The minimum is two rak'ahs, the maximum is twelve, and the middle is eight, which is the best, as established by the Prophet's (ﷺ) actions and words. The maximum is based solely on his words."
