وَقَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ (الفجر: 3
And the saying of Allah, the Almighty: ‘By the even and the odd.’ (Al-Fajr, 89:3)
عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ (رضي الله عنه) أَنَّهُ رَأَى قَوْمًا يُصَلُّوْنَ مِنَ الضُّحَى، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ عَلِمُوا أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ فِي غَيْرِ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةِ أَفْضَلُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «صَلَاةُ۱ الْأَوَّابِينَ حِينَ تَرْمَضُ الْفِصَالُ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), who saw some people praying Duha and said: "They surely know that prayer at another time is better. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The prayer of the penitent is when the young camels feel the heat of the sun.'" 1 [Narrated by Muslim]

1 The statement "The prayer of the penitent is when the young camels feel the heat of the sun" is explained in Ad-Durr Al-Mukhtar: "It is recommended to pray four or more rak'ahs of Duha from after sunrise until midday. The preferred time is after a quarter of the day has passed." In Al-Munyah, it is stated: "The minimum is two rak'ahs, the maximum is twelve, and the middle is eight, which is the best, as established by the Prophet's (ﷺ) actions and words. The maximum is based solely on his words."
۱ قوله: صلاة الأوابين حين تَرْمَضُ الفِصَالُ، وقال في الدر المختار»: وندب أربع فصاعدًا في الضحى على الصحيح، من بعد الطلوع إلى الزوال. ووقتها المختار بعد ربع النهار. وفي المنية»: أقلها ركعتان، وأكثرها اثنا عشر، وأوسطها ثمان، وهو أفضلها، كما في الذخائر الأشرفية؛ لثبوته بفعله وقوله . وأما أكثرها فبقوله ﷺ فقط.
وَعَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ الْجُهَنِي (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ قَعَدَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ حِيْنَ يَنْصَرِفُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ حَتَّى يُسَبِّحُ رَكْعَتَيِ الضُّحَى لَا يَقُوْلُ إِلَّا خَيْرًا غُفِرَ لَهُ خَطَايَاهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.
Mu'adh ibn Anas Al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever sits in his prayer place after Fajr prayer until he prays two rak'ahs of Duha, speaking only good, will have his sins forgiven, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.'" [Narrated by Abu Dawud]
وَعَنْ أَبِي ذَرِّ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يُصْبِحُ عَلَى كُلِّ سُلَامَى مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ صَدَقَةٌ، فَكُلُّ تَسْبِيحَةٍ صَدَقَةٌ، فَكُلُّ تَحْمِيدَةٍ صَدَقَةٌ، وَكُلُّ تَحْمِيدَةٍ صَدَقَةٌ، وَكُلُّ تَهْلَيْلَةٍ صَدَقَةٌ، وَكُلُّ تَكْبِيرَةٍ صَدَقَةٌ، وَأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ صَدَقَةٌ، وَنَهْيٌ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ صَدَقَةٌ، وَيُجْزِئُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ رَكْعَتَانِ يَرْكَعُهُمَا مِنَ الضُّحَى». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Every joint in a person's body must give charity every day. Every Tasbih (saying SubhanAllah) is charity, every Tahmid (saying Alhamdulillah) is charity, every Tahlil (saying La ilaha illallah) is charity, every Takbir (saying Allahu Akbar) is charity, enjoining good is charity, forbidding evil is charity, and two rak'ahs of Duha suffice for all of this.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
وَعَنْ بُرَيْدَة (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «فِي الْإِنْسَانِ ثَلَاثُ مِائَةٍ وَسِتُوْنَ مَفْصِلًا، فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْ كُلِّ مَفْصِلٍ مِنْهُ بِصَدَقَةٍ». قَالُوا: وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «النَّخَاعَةُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ تَدْفِنُهَا، وَالشَّيْءُ تُنَجِّيهِ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ فَرَكْعَنَا الضُّحَى تُجْزِئُكَ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.
Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'A person has 360 joints, and each joint must give charity.' They asked: 'Who can afford that, O Prophet of Allah?' He replied: 'Covering phlegm in the mosque, removing something harmful from the road, or if you cannot do that, then two rak'ahs of Duha will suffice for you.'" [Narrated by Abu Dawud]
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ حَافَظَ عَلَى شَفْعَةِ الضُّحَى غُفِرَتْ لَهُ ذُنُوبُهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ». رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالتَّرْمِذِيُّ وَابْنُ مَاجَه.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever consistently prays two rak'ahs of Duha will have his sins forgiven, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.'" [Narrated by Ahmad, Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah]
وَعَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَأَبِي ذَرِّ (رضي الله عنهما) قَالَا : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ اللهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: «إِنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، ارْكَعْ لِي أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ اوَّلِ النَّهَارِ أَكْفِكَ آخِرَهُ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ. وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالدَّارِمِيُّ عَنْ نُعَيْمٍ ابْنِ هِمَارِ الْغِطْفَانِي وَأَحْمَدُ عَنْهُمْ.
Abu Ad-Darda and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, narrating from Allah, the Blessed and Exalted: 'O son of Adam, pray four rak'ahs for Me at the beginning of the day, and I will suffice you for the rest of it.'" [Narrated by Tirmidhi]
Abu Dawud and Al-Darimi narrated it from Nu'aym ibn Himar Al-Ghatafani, and Ahmad narrated it from them.
وَعَنْ مُعَاذَةَ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) كَمْ كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الضُّحَى؟ قَالَتْ: أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَيَزِيدُ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Mu'adhah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "I asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): 'How many rak'ahs did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) pray for Duha?' She replied: 'Four rak'ahs, and he would increase as Allah willed.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
وَعَنْ أُمَّ هَانِي (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ دَخَلَ بَيْتَهَا يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ، فَاغْتَسَلَ وَصَلَّى ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ، فَلَمْ أَرَ صَلَاةً قَطُّ أَخَفَّ مِنْهَا، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ يُتِمُّ الرُّكُوعَ وَالسُّجُودَ، وَقَالَتْ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى: «وَذَلِكَ ضَحَى». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) entered her house on the day of the conquest of Makkah, performed Ghusl, and prayed eight rak'ahs. I have never seen a prayer lighter than that, except that he completed the bowing and prostration." In another narration, she said: "That was during Duha." [Agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim]
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تُصَلِّي الضُّحَى ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ، ثُمَّ تَقُوْلُ: لَوْ نُشِرَ لي أَبَوَايَ مَا تَرَكْتُهَا. رَوَاهُ مَالِكُ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who used to pray eight rak'ahs of Duha and then say: "Even if my parents were resurrected, I would not abandon it." [Narrated by Malik]
وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ صَلَّى الضُّحَى ثِنْتَيْ عَشَرَةَ رَكْعَةً بَنَى اللهُ لَهُ قَصْرًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَابْنُ مَاجَه.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever prays twelve rak'ahs of Duha, Allah will build for him a palace of gold in Paradise.'" [Narrated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah]
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى حَتَّى نَقُوْلَ: لَا يَدَعَهَا، وَيَدَعَهَا حَتَّى نَقُوْلَ: لَا يُصَلَّيْهَا. رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ.
Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would pray Duha so consistently that we thought he would never abandon it, and he would abandon it so much that we thought he would never pray it." [Narrated by Tirmidhi]
