67. Sūrat Al-Mulk · The Sovereignty
Blessed is the One in Whose Hands rests all authority. And He is Most Capable of everything.
Blessed is He in Whose hand is the Sovereignty, and, He is Able to do all things.
HALLOWED be He in whose hand all dominion rests, since He has the power to will anything:
Immensely blessed is He in Whose control is the entire Kingdom, and He has authority over every thing.
Blessed is He in Whose (Mighty) Hand is the kingdom (of all the worlds). And He enjoys perfect command over everything
˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.
Who hath created life and death that He may try you which of you is best in conduct; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving,
He who has created death as well as life, so that He might put you to a test [and thus show] which of you is best in conduct, and [make you realize that] He alone is almighty, truly forgiving.
He, Who has created death and life that He might test you, as to whose work, is excellent among you. And He is the Esteemed one the Forgiving.
He Who has created death and life (so that) He may test you as to which of you is best in conduct. And He is Almighty, Most Forgiving
˹He is the One˺ Who created seven heavens, one above the other. You will never see any imperfection in the creation of the Most Compassionate. So look again: do you see any flaws?
Who hath created seven heavens in harmony. Thou (Muhammad) canst see no fault in the Beneficent One's creation; then look again: Canst thou see any rifts?
[Hallowed be] He who has created seven heavens in full harmony with one another: no fault will thou see in the creation of the Most Gracious. And turn thy vision [upon it] once more: canst thou see any flaw?
Who made seven heavens one upon the other. What difference do you see in the making of the Most Affectionate? Then look again carefully, do you see any crack
He Who has created seven (or numerous) heavenly spheres corresponding to one another (layer upon layer). You will not find any irregularity and disproportion in the system of the creation of the Most Kind (Lord). So have a (meditative and thoughtful) look around: do you find in this (creation) any incongruity or disharmony (i.e., degeneration or falling apart)
Then look again and again—your sight will return frustrated and weary.
Then look again and yet again, thy sight will return unto thee weakened and made dim.
Yea, turn thy vision [upon it] again and yet again: [and every time] thy vision will fall back upon thee, dazzled and truly defeated….
Then look again and again, the sight will return back to you defeated and fatigued.
Look around time and again with (an inquisitive) vision (from different angles and with scientific methods. Every time) your sight will return to you fatigued and frustrated (in finding any shortcoming or imperfection)
And indeed, We adorned the lowest heaven with ˹stars like˺ lamps, and made them ˹as missiles˺ for stoning ˹eavesdropping˺ devils, for whom We have also prepared the torment of the Blaze.
And verily We have beautified the world's heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles for the devils, and for them We have prepared the doom of flame.
And, indeed, We have adorned the skies nearest to the earth with lights, and have made them the object of futile guesses for the evil ones [from among men]: and for them have We readied suffering through a blazing flame –
And undoubtedly, We adorned the lower heaven with lamps, and made them things to beat devils, and prepared for them the torment of blazing fire
And surely, We have adorned the lowest heaven of the universe with lights (in the form of stars, planets, other asteroids and meteoroids). And We have also made (some of them) the means of pelting away (i.e., eliminating the negative effects of) satans (i.e., rebellious forces). And We have prepared for these (satans) a torment of Blazing Fire
Those who disbelieve in their Lord will suffer the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination!
And for those who disbelieve in their Lord there is the doom of hell, a hapless journey's end!
for, suffering in hell awaits all who are [thus] bent on blaspheming against their Sustainer: and how vile a journey's end!
And for those who disbelieved in their Lord, there is the torment of Hell. And what an evil end it is?
And for those who have denied their Lord is the torment of Hell. And what an evil abode it is
When they are tossed into it, they will hear its roaring as it boils over,
When they are flung therein they hear its roaring as it boileth up,
When they are cast into that [hell], they will hear its breath indrawing as it boils up,
When they shall be thrown in it, they will hear the braying as it boils up.
When they will be flung into it, they will hear its horrifying roar. And that (Fire) will be boiling (with rage)
almost bursting in fury. Every time a group is cast into it, its keepers will ask them, “Did a warner not come to you?”
As it would burst with rage. Whenever a (fresh) host is flung therein the wardens thereof ask them: Came there unto you no warner?
well-nigh bursting with fury; [and] every time a host [of such sinners] is flung into it, its keepers will ask them, "Has no warner ever come to you?"
It seems that it will almost burst with severe fury. Whenever any group shall be thrown in it, its keepers will ask them, 'Did no warner come to you'?
As if it is about to burst into pieces with intense wrath. When a group will be cast into it, its guards will ask them: ‘Did no Warner come to you?
They will reply, “Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied and said, ‘Allah has revealed nothing. You are extremely astray.’”
They say: Yea, verily, a warner came unto us; but we denied and said: Allah hath naught revealed; ye are in naught but a great error.
They will reply: "Yea, a warner did indeed come unto us, but we gave him the lie and said, 'Never has God sent down anything [by way of revelation]! You [self-styled warners] are but lost in a great delusion!"'
They will say, 'why not, yes indeed, the warner came to us, but we belied him and said, 'Allah has sent down nothing; you are not, but in great error".
They will say: ‘Yes indeed! A Warner did come to us, but we rejected him and said: Allah has not sent down anything. You are just in great error.
And they will lament, “If only we had listened and reasoned, we would not be among the residents of the Blaze!”
And they say: Had we been wont to listen or have sense, we had not been among the dwellers in the flames.
And they will add: "Had we but listened [to those warnings], or [at least] used our own reason, we would not [now] be among those who are destined for the blazing flame!"
And they will say, 'if we had heard or reflected, we would not have been among the fellows of the Hell.
And they will say: ‘Had we listened to or understood (the truth), we would not have been (put) amongst the inmates of Hell (Today).
And so they will confess their sins. So away with the residents of the Blaze!
So they acknowledge their sins; but far removed (from mercy) are the dwellers in the flames.
Thus will they come to realize their sins: but [by that time,] remote will have become all good from those who are destined for the blazing flame.
Now they confessed their sins, then Curse be the fellows of the Hell.
Then they will confess their sin. So remoteness for the inmates of Hell (from Allah’s mercy) is (destined)
Indeed, those in awe of their Lord without seeing Him will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.
Lo! those who fear their Lord in secret, theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.
[As against this,] behold, for those who stand in awe of God although He is beyond the reach of their perception, there is forgiveness in store and a great reward.
Undoubtedly, those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is forgiveness and great reward.
Surely, those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is forgiveness and great reward
Whether you speak secretly or openly—He surely knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart.
And keep your opinion secret or proclaim it, lo! He is Knower of all that is in the breasts (of men).
AND [know, O men, that] whether you keep your beliefs secret or state them openly, He has full knowledge indeed of all that is in [your] hearts.
And whether you keep your discourse secret or disclose, He knows full well the thoughts of your breasts.
And whether you speak in secret or aloud, certainly He knows best (even) the things (hidden) in the hearts
How could He not know His Own creation? For He ˹alone˺ is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.
Should He not know what He created? And He is the Subtile, the Aware.
How could it be that He who has created [all] should not know [all]? Yea, He alone is unfathomable [in His wisdom], aware!
Will not He Who has created know? And it is He Knowing every subtle, the Aware.
Does He, Who has created, not know? In truth, He is the One Who can see the essence and is Well Aware (of everything)
He is the One Who smoothed out the earth for you, so move about in its regions and eat from His provisions. And to Him is the resurrection ˹of all˺.
He it is Who hath made the earth subservient unto you, so Walk in the paths thereof and eat of His providence. And unto Him will be the resurrection (of the dead).
He it is who has made the earth easy to live upon: go about, then, in all its regions, and partake the sustenance which He provides: but [always bear in mind that] unto Him you shall be resurrected.
It is He Who has made the earth submissive to you, therefore traverse through its tracks and eats of His provision. And to Him is the rising up.
He is the One Who has made the earth soft and subservient to you. So walk about through its tracks and eat of the sustenance (given) by Him, and towards Him alone is the return, rising (after death)
Do you feel secure that the One Who is in heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you up as it quakes violently?
Have ye taken security from Him Who is in the heaven that He will not cause the earth to swallow you when lo! it is convulsed?
Can you ever feel secure that He who is in heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you up when, lo and behold, it begins to quake?
Have you become fearless of Him whose Kingdom is in the heaven, that He may bury you in the earth, henceforth it remains shaking?
Have you gone fearless of (the Lord of) the heaven that He may sink you into the earth when it suddenly shakes
Or do you feel secure that the One Who is in heaven will not unleash upon you a storm of stones. Only then would you know how ˹serious˺ My warning was!
Or have ye taken security from Him Who is in the heaven that He will not let loose on you a hurricane? But ye shall know the manner of My warning.
Or can you ever feel secure that He who is in heaven will not let loose against you a deadly stormwind, whereupon you would come to know how [true] My warning was?
Or have you become fearless of Him whoso Kingdom is in the heaven that He may send against you stoning. Now you will know, how was My warning?
Have you gone fearless of (the Lord of) the heaven that He may send against you a stone-pelting wind? Then soon will you come to know how My Warning is
And certainly those before them denied ˹as well˺, then how severe was My response!
And verily those before them denied, then (see) the manner of My wrath (with them)!
And, indeed, [many of] those who lived aforetime did give the lie [to My warnings]: and how awesome was My rejection [of them]!
And undoubtedly, those before them belied, then how was My rejection.
And surely, those before them (also) denied. But how (awful) proved My denial
Have they not seen the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Compassionate. Indeed, He is All-Seeing of everything.
Have they not seen the birds above them spreading out their wings and closing them? Naught upholdeth them save the Beneficent. Lo! He is Seer of all things.
Have they, then, never beheld the birds above them, spreading their wings and drawing them in? None but the Most Gracious upholds them: for, verily, He keeps all things in His sight.
And have they not seen birds above them, spreading out their wings and closing them? None withholds them save the Most Affectionate Allah. Undoubtedly, He sees all things.
Have they not seen the birds above them spreading out their wings and (sometimes) folding them? Nothing can hold them (from falling) except (the law made by) the Most Kind (Lord). Surely, He sees everything best
Also, which ˹powerless˺ force will come to your help instead of the Most Compassionate? Indeed, the disbelievers are only ˹lost˺ in delusion.
Or who is he that will be an army unto you to help you instead of the Beneficent? The disbelievers are in naught but illusion.
[And] is there any, besides the Most Gracious, that could be a shield for you, and could succour you [against danger]? They who deny this truth are but lost in self- delusion!
Or which is your army that shall help you against the Most Affectionate Allah? The infidels are not but in delusion.
Well, is there anyone that can muster an army to help you against the Most Kind Lord? The disbelievers are merely (snared) in deception
Or who is it that will provide for you if He withholds His provision? In fact, they persist in arrogance and aversion ˹to the truth˺.
Or who is he that will provide for you if He should withhold His providence? Nay, but they are set in pride and frowardness.
Or is there any that could provide you with sustenance if He should withhold His provision [from you]? Nay, but they [who are bent on denying the truth] stubbornly persist in their disdain [of God's messages] and in their headlong flight [from Him]!
Or who is he, who may provide you, if He withholds His provision? Nay, but they have become shameless in contumacy and dis-dain.
Well, is there anyone that can provide you sustenance if (Allah) holds back His sustenance (from you)? In fact, they are adamantly fixed in rebellion and hatred (for truth)
Who is ˹rightly˺ guided: the one who crawls facedown or the one who walks upright on the Straight Path?
Is he who goeth groping on his face more rightly guided, or he who walketh upright on a straight road?
But then, is he that goes along with his face close to the ground better guided than he that walks upright on a straight way?
Is he who walks prone on his face better guided than he who walks upright on a straight path?
Is he who walks in prone position more rightly guided, or he who walks upright on a straight path
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He is the One Who brought you into being and gave you hearing, sight, and intellect. ˹Yet˺ you hardly give any thanks.”
Say (unto them, O Muhammad): He it is who gave you being, and hath assigned unto you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye!
SAY: "[God is] He who has brought you [all] into being, and has endowed you with hearing, and sight, and hearts: [yet] how seldom are you grateful!"
Say you, 'it is He Who produced you, and made for you ears and eyes and hearts'. How little you accept the truth?
Say: ‘(Allah) is He Who created you and provided you with ears and eyes and hearts. Yet you give thanks but little.
˹Also˺ say, “He is the One Who has dispersed you ˹all˺ over the earth, and to Him you will ˹all˺ be gathered.”
Say: He it is Who multiplieth you in the earth, and unto Whom ye will be gathered.
Say: "It is He who has multiplied you on earth; and it is unto Him that you shall be gathered [on resurrection]."
Say you, 'it is He Who has spread you in the earth, and towards Him you shall be raised.
Say: ‘He is the One Who has spread you in the earth, and you will be gathered towards Him (on the Day of Assembly).
˹Still˺ they ask ˹the believers˺, “When will this threat come to pass, if what you say is true?”
And they say: When (will) this promise (be fulfilled), if ye are truthful?
But they [only] ask, "When is this promise to be fulfilled? [Answer this, O you who believe in it,] if you are men of truth!"
And they say, 'when this promise will come to pass. if you are truthful'.
And they say: ‘When will this promise (of the Day of Resurrection) be fulfilled if you are truthful?
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “That knowledge is with Allah alone, and I am only sent with a clear warning.”
Say: The knowledge is with Allah only, and I am but a plain warner;
Say thou, [O Prophet:] "Knowledge thereof rests with God alone; and I am only a plain warner."
Say you, 'the Knowledge of it is with Allah, and I am only a clear warner'.
Say: ‘The knowledge (of that Hour) is with Allah alone and I am just a clear Warner.’ (If the time is disclosed, there will be no fear any more.
Then when they see the torment drawing near, the faces of the disbelievers will become gloomy, and it will be said ˹to them˺, “This is what you claimed would never come.”
But when they see it nigh, the faces of those who disbelieve will be awry, and it will be said (unto them): This is that for which ye used to call.
Yet in the end, when they shall see that [fulfilment] close at hand, the faces of those who were bent on denying the truth will be stricken with grief; and they will be told, "This it is that you were [so derisively] calling for!"
Then when they will see it near at hand, the faces of the infidels will be vexed, and it will be said to them, 'this is what you used to ask for'.
Then, when they will see that (Day) near, the faces of the disbelievers will be deformed and darkened, and it will be said (to them): ‘This is (the promise) which you asked for (to come to pass in haste).
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Consider this: whether Allah causes me and those with me to die or shows us mercy, who will save the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”
Say (O Muhammad): Have ye thought: Whether Allah causeth me (Muhammad) and those with me to perish or hath mercy on us, still, who will protect the disbelievers from a painful doom?
SAY [O Prophet]: "What do you think? Whether God destroys me and those who follow me, or graces us with His mercy - is there anyone that could protect [you] deniers of the truth from grievous suffering [in the life to come]?"
Say you, 'look to it, if Allah destroys me and those with me or has mercy on us, then who will protect the infidels from the painful torment'?
Say: ‘Well, give your view: if Allah causes me death (as you desire) and (also) to my Companions, or shows mercy to us (i.e., defers our death), then (in both these cases) who will shelter the disbelievers from the painful torment?
Say, “He is the Most Compassionate—in Him ˹alone˺ we believe, and in Him ˹alone˺ we trust. You will soon know who is clearly astray.”
Say: He is the Beneficent. In Him we believe and in Him we put our trust. And ye will soon know who it is that is in error manifest.
Say: "He is the Most Gracious: we have attained to faith in Him, and in Him have we placed our trust; and in time you will come to know which of us was lost in manifest error."
Say you, 'He is the Most Affectionate, we believed in Him and relied upon Him, then now you will know, who is in manifest error'.
Say: ‘He alone is the Most Kind (Lord) in Whom we believe and in Whom we trust. So you will soon know who is in open error.
Say, “Consider this: if your water were to sink ˹into the earth˺, then who ˹else˺ could bring you flowing water?”
Say: Have ye thought: If (all) your water were to disappear into the earth, who then could bring you gushing water?
Say [unto those who deny the truth]: "What do you think? If of a sudden all your water were to vanish underground, who [but God] could provide you with water from [new] unsullied springs?"
Say you, 'look to it, if your water in the morning go deep in the earth, then who would bring you water running before your eyes?
Say: ‘If your water sinks far deep into the earth (i.e., dries up), then who will bring you flowing water (on earth)?
