Those who disbelieve and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, He will render their deeds void.

Those who disbelieve and turn (men) from the way of Allah, He rendereth their actions vain.

AS FOR THOSE who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God - all their [good] deeds will He let go to waste;

Those who disbelieved and hindered from the path of Allah, Allah has destroyed their deeds.

Those who disbelieve and hinder (others) from the way of Allah, Allah destroys their actions (as for their reward in the Hereafter)

2

As for those who believe, do good, and have faith in what has been revealed to Muḥammad—which is the truth from their Lord—He will absolve them of their sins and improve their condition.

And those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He riddeth them of their ill-deeds and improveth their state.

whereas those who have attained to faith and do righteous deeds, and have come to believe in what has been bestowed from on high on Muhammad - for it is the truth from their Sustainer - [shall attain to God’s grace:] He will efface their [past] bad deeds, and will set their hearts at rest.

And those who believed and did good works and believed in what has been sent down upon Mohammad, and that is the truth from their Lord, Allah has removed from them their evils and has made good their conditions.

And those who embrace faith and do pious works persistently and believe in this (Book) which has been revealed to Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him), and that is the very truth from their Lord, Allah erases their evil works from their (record of deeds) and refines their states of being

This is because the disbelievers follow falsehood, while the believers follow the truth from their Lord. This is how Allah shows people their true state ˹of faith˺.

That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah coineth their similitudes for mankind.

This, because they who are bent on denying the truth pursue falsehood, whereas they who have attained to faith pursue [but] the truth [that flows] from their Sustainer. In this way does God set forth unto man the parables of their true state.

This is because that the infidels followed the falsehood and the believers followed the truth which is from their lord. Thus, Allah narrates to people their descriptions.

That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth (sent down) from their Lord. That is how Allah illustrates for people their states of being

4

So when you meet the disbelievers ˹in battle˺, strike ˹their˺ necks until you have thoroughly subdued them, then bind them firmly. Later ˹free them either as˺ an act of grace or by ransom until the war comes to an end. So will it be. Had Allah willed, He ˹Himself˺ could have inflicted punishment on them. But He does ˹this only to˺ test some of you by means of others. And those who are martyred in the cause of Allah, He will never render their deeds void.

Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.

NOW WHEN you meet [in war] those who are bent on denying the truth, smite their necks until you overcome them fully, and then tighten their bonds; but thereafter [set them free,] either by an act of grace or against ransom, so that the burden of war may be lifted: thus [shall it be]. And [know that] had God so willed, He could indeed punish them [Himself]; but [He wills you to struggle] so as to test you [all] by means of one another. And as for those who are slain in God’s cause, never will He let their deeds go to waste:

Therefore when you encounter the infidels, then there is smiting of the necks, till when you have fully slaughtered, then tie fast, and afterwards leave them, either by grace or for ransom, till the war lay down its burdens. This is so. And had Allah willed, He would have avenged Himself upon them, but that He may try among you one against the other. And those who have been killed in the way of Allah, Allah shall never render their works vain.

So when you are to fight (for the elimination of militancy and terrorism) against the (warring) disbelievers (in the battlefield), strike their necks (whilst fighting because they slaughtered harmless human lives and destroyed peace by their terrorist activities) till, when you have killed a good many of them (in the battle), then tie (the remaining prisoners) tightly. Thereafter, either set (them) free (without ransom) as a favour or (free them) for ransom (i.e., cost of freedom) till the warring (hostile army) lays down its weapons (i.e., announces the truce). That is (the command). And if Allah had willed, He would have avenged Himself on them (without war). But (He did not do so) in order to try some of you by means of others. And as for those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will not at all make their actions fruitless

5

He will guide them ˹to their reward˺, improve their condition,

He will guide them and improve their state,

He will guide them [in the hereafter as well], and will set their hearts at rest,

He will soon guide them and will set right their work.

He will soon put them on the straight path (of Paradise), and will greatly enhance their states of being (in the Hereafter)

6

and admit them into Paradise, having made it known to them.

And bring them in unto the Garden which He hath made known to them.

and will admit them to the paradise which He has promised them.

And will make them enter the Paradise that He has made known to them.

And He will (ultimately) admit them to Paradise which He has (already) made well known to them

7

O believers! If you stand up for Allah, He will help you and make your steps firm.

O ye who believe! If ye help Allah, He will help you and will make your foothold firm.

O you who have attained to faith! If you help [the cause of] God, He will help you, and will make firm your steps;

'O believers! If you will help the religion of Allah, Allah will help you and will make your feet firm.

O believers! If you help (the Din [Religion] of) Allah, He will help you and will make your feet firm

8

As for the disbelievers, may they be doomed and may He render their deeds void.

And those who disbelieve, perdition is for them, and He will make their actions vain.

but as for those who are bent on denying the truth, ill fortune awaits them, since He will let all their [good] deeds go to waste:

And those who disbelieved, for them is the destruction and Allah destroys their works.

And those who disbelieve, for them is destruction and (Allah) has ruined their actions

9

That is because they detest what Allah has revealed, so He has rendered their deeds void.

That is because they are averse to that which Allah hath revealed, therefor maketh He their actions fruitless.

this, because they hate [the very thought of] what God has bestowed from on high and thus He causes all their deeds to come to nought!

This is because they hated what Allah has sent down, so He has made their works futile.

That is because they hate that (Book) which Allah has sent down so He has made their actions come to nothing

10

Have they not travelled throughout the land to see what was the end of those before them? Allah annihilated them, and a similar fate awaits the disbelievers.

Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? Allah wiped them out. And for the disbelievers there will be the like thereof.

Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [willful sinners] who lived before their time? God destroyed them utterly: and the like thereof awaits all who deny the truth.

Have they, then not traveled in the land that they may see what became the end of those who were before them? Allah has cast destruction upon them and for the infidels there are so many the like thereof.

Have they not travelled and toured in the earth so that they could see the fate of those who passed before them? Allah cast upon them total destruction. There are many such calamities awaiting the disbelievers

11

This is because Allah is the Patron of the believers while the disbelievers have no patron.

That is because Allah is patron of those who believe, and because the disbelievers have no patron.

This, because God is the Protector of all who have attained to faith, whereas they who deny the truth have no protector.

This is because Allah is the Protector of the muslims and the infidels have no protector.

That is because Allah is the Protector and Helper of those who believe, and for sure the disbelievers do not have any protector and helper

12

Surely Allah will admit those who believe and do good into Gardens under which rivers flow. As for the disbelievers, they enjoy themselves and feed like cattle. But the Fire will be their home.

Lo! Allah will cause those who believe and do good works to enter Gardens underneath which rivers flow; while those who disbelieve take their comfort in this life and eat even as the cattle eat, and the Fire is their habitation.

Verily, God will admit all who attain to faith and do righteous deeds into gardens through which running waters flow, whereas they who are bent on denying the truth shall have - even though they may enjoy their life [in this world] and eat as cattle eat - the fire [of the hereafter] for their abode.

Undoubtedly, Allah will make those who believed and did good works enter the Gardens underneath which the rivers flow; while the infidels enjoy and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire is their resort.

Surely, those who believe and do pious works, Allah will admit them to Gardens with streams flowing under them, and those who disbelieve and are enjoying (worldly) gains and eat as cattle (animals) do, so Hell alone will be their abode

13

˹Imagine, O Prophet,˺ how many societies We destroyed that were far superior in might than your society—which drove you out—and there was none to help them!

And how many a township stronger than thy township (O Muhammad) which hath cast thee out, have We destroyed, and they had no helper!

And how many a community of greater power than this thy community which has driven thee out, [O Muhammad,] have We destroyed, with none to succour them!

And how many a city that was stronger in might than this city which has driven you out have We destroyed, and they have no helper.

And, (O Beloved,) how many a town have We destroyed whose citizens wielded greater power (i.e., resources and authority) than (the residents of) your city (Mecca) whose (powerful chiefs) have driven you out (by emigration)! We have destroyed them as well, and no one came to their help (who could save them)

14

Can those ˹believers˺ who stand on clear proof from their Lord be like those whose evil deeds are made appealing to them and ˹only˺ follow their desires?

Is he who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord like those for whom the evil that they do is beautified while they follow their own lusts?

CAN, THEN, he who takes his stand on a clear evidence from his Sustainer be likened Unto one to whom the evil of his own doings [always] seems goodly, and unto such as would follow but their own lusts?

Will he then, who is upon a clear proof from his Lord be like him whose evil deeds have been shown fair to him and they followed their caprices'.

Is someone who is (firm) on the clear proof from his Lord like those whose evil actions are shown to them as fair and who follow the desires of their (ill-commanding) selves

15

The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste, rivers of wine delicious to drink, and rivers of pure honey. There they will ˹also˺ have all kinds of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. ˹Can they be˺ like those who will stay in the Fire forever, left to drink boiling water that will tear apart their insides?

A similitude of the Garden which those who keep their duty (to Allah) are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted, and rivers of milk whereof the flavour changeth not, and rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of clear-run honey; therein for them is every kind of fruit, with pardon from their Lord. (Are those who enjoy all this) like those who are immortal in the Fire and are given boiling water to drink so that it teareth their bowels?

[And can] the parable of the paradise which the God-conscious are promised [a paradise] wherein there are rivers of water which time does not corrupt, and rivers of milk the taste whereof never alters, and rivers of wine delightful to those who drink it, and rivers of honey of all impurity cleansed, and the enjoyment of all the fruits [of their good deeds] and of forgiveness from their Sustainer -: can this [parable of paradise] be likened unto [the parable of the recompense of] such as are to abide in the fire and be given waters of burning despair to drink, so that it will tear their bowels asunder?

The description of the Paradise promised to the God fearing; therein are rivers of water which never stales; and rivers of milk of which the taste does not change, and rivers of wine of which the drinking is delightful; and the rivers of honey purified. And therein for them are every kind of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. Shall persons enjoying such comforts be equal to those who are to abide in the Fire and are given to drink boiling water so that it may cut their entrails into pieces?

A feature of the Paradise which is promised to the Godfearing is that therein are streams of (such) water as will never putrefy (in smell or colour), and (in it) will be streams of milk whose taste and flavour will never change, and streams of (such a pure) wine that is an absolute delight for all who drink it and streams of purified honey; and (in it) will be fruits of every kind (for them) and forgiveness (of every sort) from their Lord. Can this (pious man) be like those who are permanent residents of Hell and who will be given scalding water to drink which will cut their gut into pieces

16

There are some of them who listen to you ˹O Prophet˺, but when they depart from you, they say ˹mockingly˺ to those ˹believers˺ gifted with knowledge, “What did he just say?” These are the ones whose hearts Allah has sealed and who ˹only˺ follow their desires.

Among them are some who give ear unto thee (Muhammad) till, when they go forth from thy presence they say unto those who have been given knowledge: What was that he said just now? Those are they whose hearts Allah hath sealed, and they follow their own lusts.

Now among those [hapless sinners] are such as [pretend to] listen to thee, [O Muhammad,] and then, as soon as they leave thy presence, speak [with scorn] unto those who have understood [thy message]: “What is it that he has said just now?” It is such as these whose hearts God has sealed because they [always] followed but their own lusts

And among them are some who listen to you till when they go forth from before you say to the men of learning, 'what he has said just now?' These are they upon whose hearts Allah has set a seal and they followed their coprices.

And amongst them are those who give ears to you (without their heads and hearts in it) till, when they leave your presence and go (out), they ask those who have been given (profitable) knowledge: ‘What is it that he (the Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him]) said just now?’ It is they whose hearts Allah has sealed up and they are following their lusts

17

As for those who are ˹rightly˺ guided, He increases them in guidance and blesses them with righteousness.

While as for those who walk aright, He addeth to their guidance, and giveth them their protection (against evil).

just as for those who are [willing to be] guided, He increases their [ability to follow His] guidance and causes them to grow in God-consciousness.

And those who have been guided, Allah has added to their guidance and bestowed them their piety.

And as for those who have taken guidance, Allah increases their guidance and honours them with their station of Godwariness

18

Are they only waiting for the Hour to take them by surprise? Yet ˹some of˺ its signs have already come. Once it actually befalls them, will it not be too late to be mindful?

Await they aught save the Hour, that it should come upon them unawares? And the beginnings thereof have already come. But how, when it hath come upon them, can they take their warning?

Are, then, they [whose hearts are sealed] waiting for the Last Hour - [waiting] that it come upon them of a sudden? But it has already been foretold! And what will their remembrance [of their past sins] avail them, once it has come upon them?

What they are then waiting for but the Hour that it should come upon them suddenly? The signs thereof have already come, therefore when it will come to them, then where will they be and where their understanding?

So are they (the deniers) now just waiting for the Last Hour to come upon them all of a sudden? Its signs have no doubt drawn (near). But what (good) will their admonition do to them when the Last Hour (itself) approaches

So, know ˹well, O Prophet,˺ that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah. And seek forgiveness for your shortcomings and for ˹the sins of˺ the believing men and women. For Allah ˹fully˺ knows your movements and places of rest ˹O people˺.

So know (O Muhammad) that there is no Allah save Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy sin and for believing men and believing women. Allah knoweth (both) your place of turmoil and your place of rest.

Know, then, [O man,] that there is no deity save God, and [while there is yet time,] ask forgiveness for thy sins and for [the sins of] all other believing men and women: for God knows all your comings and goings as well as your abiding [at rest].

Know you therefore that there is no worshipping save Allah and O beloved, ask forgiveness for the sins of your near ones and for general Muslim men and women. And Allah knows Your moving about in the day and your taking rest by night.

Know then that there is no God except Allah and (to offer worship and to educate the Umma [Community]) always ask forgiveness (from Allah) lest an action unworthy of your incomparable station may come into occurrence.* And also seek forgiveness (i.e., intercede) for the believing men and women (for that is all they may have in balance for forgiveness). And, (O people,) Allah knows (all about) the places where you move about (in the world) and your mansions of repose (in the Hereafter)

And the believers say, “If only a sûrah was revealed ˹allowing self-defence˺!” Yet when a precise sûrah is revealed, in which fighting is ˹explicitly˺ mentioned, you see those with sickness in their hearts staring at you like someone in the throes of death. It would have been better for them

And those who believe say: If only a surah were revealed! But when a decisive surah is revealed and war is mentioned therein, thou seest those in whose hearts is a disease looking at thee with the look of men fainting unto death. Therefor woe unto them!

NOW THOSE who have attained to faith say, “Would that a revelation [allowing us to fight] was bestowed from on high!” But now that a revelation clear in and by itself, mentioning war, has been bestowed from on high, thou canst see those in whose hearts is disease looking at thee, [O Muhammad,] with the look of one who is about to faint for fear of death! And yet, far better for them would be

And the muslims say, 'why not a sure has been sent down? But when any decisive Sura is sent down and therein fighting is ordained, you will see those in whose hearts is sickness looking at you with a look of one upon whom death has overshadowed but it was better for them.

And the believers say why a Sura (Chapter) is not revealed (about the command of defensive fighting). But when a clear Sura is revealed and (defensive) fighting for the cause of Allah is (plainly) mentioned in it, you see those who have the disease (of hypocrisy) in their hearts looking at you like someone who is fainting to death. So, for them is disaster

to obey and speak rightly. Then when fighting was ordained, it surely would have been better for them if they were true to Allah.

Obedience and a civil word. Then, when the matter is determined, if they are loyal to Allah it will be well for them.

obedience [to God’s call] and a word that could win [His] approval: for, since the matter has been resolved [by His revelation], it would be but for their own good to remain true to God.

That they would have obeyed and spoken good words. Then when the order has been finalized, if they were true to Allah, it would have been better for them.

(Best for them would be) obedience and good words. So when the command of fighting (for self-protection and self-defence) was definite (and firm), then if they had been true to Allah (in obedience and dedication), that would have been better for them

22

Now if you ˹hypocrites˺ turn away, perhaps you would then spread corruption throughout the land and sever your ˹ties of˺ kinship!

Would ye then, if ye were given the command, work corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship?

[Ask them:] “Would you, perchance, after having turned away [from God’s commandment, prefer to revert to your old ways, and] spread corruption on earth, and [once again] cut asunder your ties of kinship?”

Do you then have the sign that if you get the authority, spread disorder in the land and sever your ties of Kinship?

So, (O hypocrites,) what is expected of you is that if you (escape fighting by dodging and) attain to power, you will spread only mischief in the land and break your ties of kinship (which Allah and His Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him] have commanded to strengthen with affection and care)

These are the ones who Allah has condemned, deafening them and blinding their eyes.

Such are they whom Allah curseth so that He deafeneth them and maketh blind their eyes.

It is such as these whom God rejects, and whom He makes deaf [to the voice of truth], and whose eyes He blinds [to its sight]!

These are they whom Allah has cursed and made them deaf from the truth and made their eyes blind.

It is they whom Allah has cursed and made deaf (their ears) and blinded their eyes

Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?

Will they then not meditate on the Qur'an, or are there locks on the hearts?

Will they not, then, ponder over this Qur’an? - or are there locks upon their hearts?

Do they then ponder not over Quran, or there are locks on the hearts of some of them?

Do they not think over the Qur’an, or are their hearts locked

25

Indeed, those who relapse ˹into disbelief˺ after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them, ˹it is˺ Satan ˹that˺ has tempted them, luring them with false hopes.

Lo! those who turn back after the guidance hath been manifested unto them, Satan hath seduced them, and He giveth them the rein.

VERILY, those who turn their backs [on this message] after guidance has been vouchsafed to them, [do it because] Satan has embellished their fancies and filled them with false hopes:

Undoubtedly, those who turned away to their backs after the guidance had become clear to them. The devil seduced them and gave them false hope of long living in the world.

Surely, those who turned back (to disbelief) after the guidance had become clear to them, Satan (by fraud) made (turning back to disbelief) look good to them and gave them false hope of living long (in the world)

That is because they said ˹privately˺ to those who ˹also˺ detest what Allah has revealed, “We will obey you in some matters.” But Allah ˹fully˺ knows what they are hiding.

That is because they say unto those who hate what Allah hath revealed: We will obey you in some matters; and Allah knoweth their secret talk.

[they do turn their backs on it] inasmuch as they are wont to say unto those who abhor all that God has revealed, “We will comply with your views on some points.” But God knows their secret thoughts:

That is because they said to those who hate what Allah has sent down, 'we shall obey you in one matter', and Allah knows their secrets.

That is because they said to those who dislike the Book revealed by Allah: ‘We shall obey you in certain matters.’ And Allah knows best their secret consultations

Then how ˹horrible˺ will it be when the angels take their souls, beating their faces and backs!

Then how (will it be with them) when the angels gather them, smiting their faces and their backs!

hence, how [will they fare] when the angels gather them in death, striking their faces and their backs?

How then shall it be, when the angles will cause them to die, beating their faces and their backs?

Then what will be (their plight at the time) when the angels will snatch out their souls (this way) that they will be striking their faces and their backs

28

This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void.

That will be because they followed that which angereth Allah, and hated that which pleaseth Him. Therefor He hath made their actions vain.

This, because they were wont to pursue what God condemns and to hate [whatever would meet with] His goodly acceptance: and so He has caused all their [good] deeds to come to nought.

That is because they have followed what angers Allah and hated His pleasure, so He has rendered their works vain.

That is because they followed that (path) which displeases Allah and disliked His good pleasure; so He made (all) their actions null and void

Or do those with sickness in their hearts think that Allah will not ˹be able to˺ expose their malice?

Or do those in whose hearts is a disease deem that Allah will not bring to light their (secret) hates?

Or do they in whose hearts is disease think, perchance, that God would never bring their moral failings to light?

Do those on whose hearts there is disease think that Allah will not bring to light their rancour?

Do those who have the disease (of hypocrisy) in their hearts think that Allah will never make known their malice and hostilities

Had We willed, We could have truly shown them to you ˹O Prophet˺, and you would have certainly recognized them by their appearance. But you will surely recognize them by their tone of speech. And Allah ˹fully˺ knows your doings ˹O people˺.

And if We would, We could show them unto thee (Muhammad) so that thou shouldst know them surely by their marks. And thou shalt know them by the burden of their talk. And Allah knoweth your deeds.

Now had We so willed, We could have shown them clearly to thee, so that thou wouldst know them for sure as by a visible mark: but [even so,] thou wilt most certainly recognize them by the tone of their voice. And God knows all that you do, [O men;]

And if We pleased, We could show them to you so that you should recognize them by their faces and you shall certainly recognize them by the tone of their speech. And Allah knows your deeds.

And if We will, We can surely show these (hypocrites) to you (in such a manner) that you may recognize them by their facial expressions and (likewise) you may recognize them by their conversation style and Allah knows (best) all your actions

31

We will certainly test you ˹believers˺ until We prove those of you who ˹truly˺ struggle ˹in Allah’s cause˺ and remain steadfast, and reveal how you conduct yourselves.

And verily We shall try you till We know those of you who strive hard (for the cause of Allah) and the steadfast, and till We test your record.

and most certainly We shall try you all, so that We might mark out those of you who strive hard [in Our cause] and are patient in adversity: for We shall put to a test [the truth of] all your assertions.

And We shall certainly test you until We see those among you who struggle and are steadfast and try your tidings.

And We shall certainly try you till We bring to light those of you who strive hard and fight (firm-footed) and who observe patience and expose your (secret) news (of hypocritical cowardice) as well

Indeed, those who disbelieve, hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, and defy the Messenger after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them; they will not harm Allah in the least, but He will render their deeds void.

Lo! those who disbelieve and turn from the way of Allah and oppose the messenger after the guidance hath been manifested unto them, they hurt Allah not a jot, and He will make their actions fruitless.

Verily, they who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God, and [who thus] cut themselves off from the Apostle after guidance has been vouchsafed to them, can in no wise harm God; but He will cause all their deeds to come to nought.

Undoubtedly, those who committed infidelity and hindered from the way of Allah and opposed the Messenger after the guidance had become clear to them, they shall never harm Allah and He will make their works fruitless soon.

Indeed, those who disbelieved and hindered (the people) from the way of Allah and opposed the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him), (and chose the path of breaking away from him,) after the guidance (i.e., the gnosis of the veneration of the Holy Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him]) had become clear to them, they would not be able to harm Allah anyway (i.e., would not be able to decrease the incomparable superiority and pre-eminence of the Messenger* [blessings and peace be upon him]). Allah will wreck (all) their works (due to their opposition to the Holy Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him])

33

O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not let your deeds be in vain.

O ye who believe! Obey Allah and obey the messenger, and render not your actions vain.

O you who have attained to faith! Pay heed unto God, and pay heed unto the Apostle, and let not your [good] deeds come to nought!

'O believers! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and let not your works go vain.

O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) and do not ruin your works

34

Surely those who disbelieve, hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, and then die as disbelievers; Allah will never forgive them.

Lo! those who disbelieve and turn from the way of Allah and then die disbelievers, Allah surely will not pardon them.

Verily, as for those who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God, and then die as deniers of the truth - indeed, God will not grant them forgiveness!

Undoubtedly those who disbelieved and hindered from the way of Allah and then died as disbelievers, Allah shall never forgive them.

Indeed, those who disbelieved and hindered (the people) from the way of Allah and then died as disbelievers, Allah will never forgive them

35

So do not falter or cry for peace, for you will have the upper hand and Allah is with you. And He will never let your deeds go to waste.

So do not falter and cry out for peace when ye (will be) the uppermost, and Allah is with you, and He will not grudge (the reward of) your actions.

AND SO, [when you fight in a just cause,] do not lose heart and [never] beg for peace: for, seeing that God is with you, you are bound to rise high [in the end]; and never will He let your [good] deeds go to waste.

So be not slack and call not yourself towards peace for you shall overcome and Allah is with you, He will never give you loss in your works.

(O believers!) Do not lose heart and do not ask (the warring disbelievers) for peace (lest it should suggest your weakness). And it is you who will have the upper hand. And Allah is with you, and He will never reduce (the reward of) your actions

36

This worldly life is no more than play and amusement. But if you are faithful and mindful ˹of Allah˺, He will grant you your ˹full˺ reward, and will not ask you ˹to donate all˺ your wealth.

The life of the world is but a sport and a pastime. And if ye believe and ward off (evil). He will give you your wages, and will not ask of you your wordly wealth.

The life of this world is but a play and a passing delight: but if you believe [in God] and are conscious of Him, He will grant you your deserts. And withal, He does not demand of you [to sacrifice in His cause all of] your possessions:

The wordily life is but a sport and pastime. And if you believe and ward off evil, He will give you your rewards, and will not ask you your wealth.

Doubtlessly, the life of the world is nothing but merely a sport and pastime. And if you believe and adopt Godwariness, He will pay you the recompense (of your deeds in full), and will not require of you your wealth

37

If He were to do so and pressure you, you would withhold and He would bring out your resentment.

If He should ask it of you and importune you, ye would hoard it, and He would bring to light your (secret) hates.

[for,] if He were to demand of you all of them, and urge you, you would niggardly cling [to them], and so He would [but] bring out your moral failings.

If He asks them of you and asks more you would be niggardly, and the niggardliness will bring, to light the malice of your hearts.

If He asks you for this wealth and puts you under scarcity for that, then you will feel constrained (at heart and) become miserly. And in this way, He will expose your (inner) rust (which results from worldly pursuits)

Here you are, being invited to donate ˹a little˺ in the cause of Allah. Still some of you withhold. And whoever does so, it is only to their own loss. For Allah is the Self-Sufficient, whereas you stand in need ˹of Him˺. If you ˹still˺ turn away, He will replace you with another people. And they will not be like you.

Lo! ye are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah, yet among you there are some who hoard. And as for him who hoardeth, he hoardeth only from his soul. And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor. And if ye turn away He will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.

Behold, [O believers,] it is you who are called upon to spend freely in God’s cause: but [even] among you are such as turn out to be niggardly! And yet, he who acts niggardly [in God’s cause] is but niggardly towards his own self: for God is indeed self-sufficient, whereas you stand in need [of Him]; and if you turn away [from Him], He will cause other people to take your place, and they will not be the likes of you!

Look here yes, you are those who are called upon to spend in the way of Allah, then of you there are some who are niggardly and whoso is niggardly is only niggardly to his soul. And Allah is self-sufficient. And you all are needy. And if you turn your face, He will substitute for you another people and then they will not be like you.

Remember! You are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah. Then there are some of you who act miserly. And whoever acts miserly does it only against himself. And Allah is Independent and you (all) are dependent. And if you turn away from the command of Allah, He will replace you with another people who will not be like you
