33. Sūrat Al-Ahzab · The Combined Forces
O Prophet! ˹Always˺ be mindful of Allah, and do not yield to the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
O Prophet! Keep thy duty to Allah and obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
PROPHET! Remain conscious of God, and defer not to the deniers of the truth and the hypocrites: for God is truly all-knowing, wise.
'O prophet! The Communicator of unseen continue fearing Allah and hear not the infidels and hypocrites. Undoubtedly Allah is Knowing, Wise
O Prophet! Remain firm in fearing Allah (with perseverance as before) and do not agree at all to what the disbelievers and the hypocrites say (i.e., ‘Conclude with us religious agreement’). Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, Most Wise
Follow what is revealed to you from your Lord. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what you ˹all˺ do.
And follow that which is inspired in thee from thy Lord. Lo! Allah is Aware of what ye do.
And follow [but] that which comes unto thee through revelation from thy Sustainer: for God is truly aware of all that you do, [O men].
And continue following that which is being revealed to you from your Lord. Allah is looking your doings.
And continue following this (command) which is revealed to you from your Lord. Surely, Allah is Well Aware of the works that you do
And put your trust in Allah, for Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.
And put thy trust in Allah, for Allah is sufficient as Trustee.
And place thy trust in God [alone]: for none is as worthy of trust as God.
And O beloved! Rely on Allah. And Allah is Sufficient as Accomplisher of affairs.
And maintain your trust in Allah and Sufficient is Allah as a Guardian
Allah does not place two hearts in any person’s chest. Nor does He regard your wives as ˹unlawful for you like˺ your real mothers, ˹even˺ if you say they are. Nor does He regard your adopted children as your real children. These are only your baseless assertions. But Allah declares the truth, and He ˹alone˺ guides to the ˹Right˺ Way.
Allah hath not assigned unto any man two hearts within his body, nor hath He made your wives whom ye declare (to be your mothers) your mothers, nor hath He made those whom ye claim (to be your sons) your sons. This is but a saying of your mouths. But Allah saith the truth and He showeth the way.
NEVER has God endowed any man with two hearts in one body: and [just as] He has never made your wives whom you may have declared to be “as unlawful to you as your mothers’ bodies” [truly] your mothers, so, too, has He never made your adopted sons [truly] your sons: these are but [figures of] speech uttered by your mouths - whereas God speaks the [absolute] truth: and it is He alone who can show [you] the right path.
Allah has not put two hearts inside a man, and nor has made your those wives whom you pronounce as equal to your mother, your real mothers and nor has made your adopted sons your real sons. This is only your saying of your own mouth. And Allah says the truth and only He shows the way.
Allah has not made for any man two hearts inside his breast, nor has He made your wives your mothers whom you call mothers by way of zihar (a form of divorce). Nor has He made your adopted sons your (real) sons. These are merely the utterances of your mouth. And Allah says the truth and He alone shows the (straight) path
Let your adopted children keep their family names. That is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are ˹simply˺ your fellow believers and close associates. There is no blame on you for what you do by mistake, but ˹only˺ for what you do intentionally. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Proclaim their real parentage. That will be more equitable in the sight of Allah. And if ye know not their fathers, then (they are) your brethren in the faith, and your clients. And there is no sin for you in the mistakes that ye make unintentionally, but what your hearts purpose (that will be a sin for you). Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
[As for your adopted children,] call them by their [real] fathers’ names: this is more equitable in the sight of God; and if you know not who their fathers were, [call them] your brethren in faith and your friends. However, you will incur no sin if you err in this respect: [what really matters is] but what your hearts intend - for God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!
Call them after their fathers, this is more justified in the sight of Allah, but if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in faith and as human being your cousin. And there is no blame on you regarding what has been committed by you unintentionally, yes that is a sin, which you may commit with the intention of your heart. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Call them (the adopted sons) after their fathers’ (names). That is most just in the sight of Allah. So if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in the Din (Religion) and your friends. And there is no sin on you for what you said by mistake, but (that will be a sure sin) which your hearts intend. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful
The Prophet has a stronger affinity to the believers than they do themselves. And his wives are their mothers. As ordained by Allah, blood relatives are more entitled ˹to inheritance˺ than ˹other˺ believers and immigrants, unless you ˹want to˺ show kindness to your ˹close˺ associates ˹through bequest˺. This is decreed in the Record.
The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, and his wives are (as) their mothers. And the owners of kinship are closer one to another in the ordinance of Allah than (other) believers and the fugitives (who fled from Mecca), except that ye should do kindness to your friends. This is written in the Book (of nature).
The Prophet has a higher claim on the believers than [they have on] their own selves, [seeing that he is as a father to them] and his wives are their mothers: and they who are [thus] closely related have, in accordance with God’s decree, a higher claim upon one another than [was even the case between] the believers [of Yathrib] and those who had migrated [there for the sake of God]. None the less, you are to act with utmost goodness towards your [other] close friends as well: this [too] is written down in God’s decree.
This prophet is the owner of the Muslims even more than their own selves and his wives are their mothers. And blood relations are nearer to one another in the Book of Allah than other Muslims and emigrants but that you do any favour to your friends. This is inscribed in the Book.
This (Esteemed) Prophet is nearer to and has a greater claim on the believers than their own souls and his (pure) wives are their mothers. And blood relations have a greater claim one to another (in the distribution of inheritance) in the Book of Allah than (the rest of) the believers and the Emigrants except that you desire to do favour to your friends. This command is written in the Book of Allah
And ˹remember˺ when We took a covenant from the prophets, as well as from you ˹O Prophet˺, and from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary. We did take a solemn covenant from ˹all of˺ them
And when We exacted a covenant from the prophets, and from thee (O Muhammad) and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant;
AND LO! We did accept a solemn pledge from all the prophets from thee, [O Muhammad,] as well as from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary -: for We accepted a most weighty, solemn pledge from [all of] them,
And O beloved! Remember when We took covenant from the prophets and from you, and from Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and Isa son of Maryam and We took from them a firm covenant
And, (O Beloved, recall) when We took a covenant from the Prophets (to preach faith in their Prophethood) and (specially) from you and from Nuh (Noah) and from Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses) and ‘Isa (Jesus), the son of Mayam (Mary), and We took from them a solemn covenant
so that He may question these men of truth about their ˹delivery of the˺ truth. And He has prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers.
That He may ask the loyal of their loyalty. And He hath prepared a painful doom for the unfaithful.
so that [at the end of time] He might ask those men of truth as to [what response] their truthfulness [had received on earth]. And grievous suffering has He readied for all who deny the truth!
That He may question the truthful regarding their truth, and He has already prepared painful torment for the infidels
So that (Allah) asks the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared an agonizing torment for the disbelievers
O believers! Remember Allah’s favour upon you when ˹enemy˺ forces came to ˹besiege˺ you ˹in Medina˺, so We sent against them a ˹bitter˺ wind and forces you could not see. And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you when there came against you hosts, and We sent against them a great wind and hosts ye could not see. And Allah is ever Seer of what ye do.
O YOU who have attained to faith! Call to mind the blessings which God bestowed on you (at the time) when [enemy] hosts came down upon you, whereupon We let loose against them a storm wind and [heavenly] hosts that you could not see: yet God saw all that you did.
'O believers! Remember Allah's favour upon you, when some hosts came against you, then We sent on them strong wind and an army, which you did not see. And Allah sees your doings
O believers! Recall Allah’s favour to you when the forces (of disbelievers) came upon you. Then We sent wind and troops (of angels) against them whom you did not see. And Allah sees best what you do
˹Remember˺ when they came at you from east and west, when your eyes grew wild ˹in horror˺ and your hearts jumped into your throats, and you entertained ˹conflicting˺ thoughts about Allah.
When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah.
[Remember what you felt] when they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when [your] eyes became dim and [your] hearts came up to [your] throats, and [when] most conflicting thoughts about God passed through your minds:
When the infidel's came upon you from above you, and from below you and when eyes drew back in amazement and your hearts reached your throats and you began to think diverse thoughts about Allah (of hopes and despairs).
When they (the disbelievers) invaded you from above (the eastern side of the valley) and from below (the western side of the valley), and when (your) eyes were distracted (with terror), and (your) hearts rose up to your throats (with horror), and you began to think various uncertainties about Allah (in a state of fear and hope)
Then and there the believers were put to the test, and were violently shaken.
There were the believers sorely tried, and shaken with a mighty shock.
[for] there and then were the believers tried, and shaken with a shock severe.
That was the place, Muslims were tested and they were shaken with severe shaking.
At that stage, the believers were put to trial and were shaken with mighty jolts
And ˹remember˺ when the hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said, “Allah and His Messenger have promised us nothing but delusion!”
And when the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, were saying: Allah and His messenger promised us naught but delusion.
And [remember how it was] when the hypocrites and those with hearts diseased said [to one another], “God and His Apostle have promised us nothing but delusions!”
And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts there was a disease said, 'Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but a delusion'.
And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease (of instability of faith and doubt and suspicion) said: ‘Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peae be upon him) gave us a promise (of victory) just to deceive and betray.
And ˹remember˺ when a group of them said, “O people of Yathrib! There is no point in you staying ˹here˺, so retreat!” Another group of them asked the Prophet’s permission ˹to leave˺, saying, “Our homes are vulnerable,” while ˹in fact˺ they were not vulnerable. They only wished to flee.
And when a party of them said: O folk of Yathrib! There is no stand (possible) for you, therefor turn back. And certain of them (even) sought permission of the Prophet, saying: Our homes lie open (to the enemy). And they lay not open. They but wished to flee.
and when some of them said, “O you people of Yathrib! You cannot withstand [the enemy] here: hence, go back [to your homes]!” — Whereupon a party from among them asked leave of the Prophet, saying, “Behold, our houses are exposed [to attack]!” — The while they were not [really] exposed: they wanted nothing but to flee.
And when a party of them said, 'O people, of Madina, here there is place for your stay, therefore walk back to your houses,' and a party of them asked permission of the prophet, saying our houses are unsafe, and they were not unsafe. They wished not but to flee away.
And when a party of them said: ‘O people of Yathrib! There is no position left for you to stay (safely), so go back (home),’ and a party of them began to seek permission from the Holy Prophet ([blessings and peace be upon him] to go back), saying: ‘Our houses are lying exposed,’ whereas their houses were not exposed; they only wanted to escape (on this pretext)
Had their city been sacked from all sides and they had been asked to abandon faith, they would have done so with little hesitation.
If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little.
Now if their town had been stormed, and they had been asked [by the enemy] to commit apostasy, [the hypocrites] would have done so without much delay
And if the armies were entered upon them from the sides of Madina, and they would have asked sedition of them, then necessarily, they would not have been late in it but a little
And if the armies had entered upon them from all the sides of Medina, and they (the hypocrites) had been asked pertaining to the subversion (of disbelief and polytheism), they would have accepted (the demand), and would not have delayed it except for a short while
They had already pledged to Allah earlier never to turn their backs ˹in retreat˺. And a pledge to Allah must be answered for.
And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for.
although ere that they had vowed before God that they would never turn their backs [on His message]: and a vow made to God must surely be answered for!
And undoubtedly, they had already convenanted with Allah before that, that they would not turn their backs. And the covenant with Allah shall be questioned of.
And certainly before this they had made a covenant with Allah that they would not turn their backs and run away. And the covenant made with Allah will (certainly) be asked about
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Fleeing will not benefit you if you ˹try to˺ escape a natural or violent death. ˹If it is not your time,˺ you will only be allowed enjoyment for a little while.”
Say: Flight will not avail you if ye flee from death or killing, and then ye dwell in comfort but a little while.
Say: “Whether you flee from [natural] death or from being slain [in battle], flight will not profit you - for, however you fare, you are not [allowed] to enjoy life for more than a little while!”
Say you, 'Flight will never profit you, if you flee from death or slaying, and even then you shall not be allowed to enjoy the world but a little'.
Say: ‘Escape will not benefit you at all. If you seek to flee (fearing) death or slaughter, you will gain little (from life) except a brief respite.
Ask ˹them, O Prophet˺, “Who can put you out of Allah’s reach if He intends to harm you or show you mercy?” They can never find any protector or helper besides Allah.
Say: Who is he who can preserve you from Allah if He intendeth harm for you, or intendeth mercy for you. They will not find that they have any friend or helper other than Allah.
Say: “Who is there that could keep you away from God if it be His will to harm you, or if it be His will to show you mercy?” For, [do they not know that] besides God they can find none to protect them, and none to bring them succour?
Say you, 'who is he that may evade the command of Allah from you, if He wills evil for you or desires mercy for you. And they shall not find for themselves besides Allah any supporter nor helper.
Say: ‘Who is the one that can protect you from Allah if He intends to afflict you with suffering or to bestow upon you His mercy?’ And they will not find for themselves any protector or helper apart from Allah
Allah knows well those among you who discourage ˹others from fighting˺, saying ˹secretly˺ to their brothers, “Stay with us,” and who themselves hardly take part in fighting.
Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: "Come ye hither unto us!" and they come not to the stress of battle save a little,
God is indeed aware of those of you who would divert others [from fighting in His cause], as well as of those who say to their brethren, “Come hither to us [and face the enemy]!” — The while they [themselves] join battle but seldom,
Undoubtedly, Allah knows those of you who hinder others from holy war and say to their brothers, come to us, and they come not to the battle but a little.
Surely, Allah knows those amongst you who hinder (from the Holy Prophet [blessings and peace be upon him] and from fighting in his company) and who say to their brothers: ‘Come to us.’ And they themselves come to fight but little
˹They are˺ totally unwilling to assist you. When danger comes, you see them staring at you with their eyes rolling like someone in the throes of death. But once the danger is over, they slash you with razor-sharp tongues, ravenous for ˹worldly˺ gains. Such people have not ˹truly˺ believed, so Allah has rendered their deeds void. And that is easy for Allah.
Being sparing of their help to you (believers). But when the fear cometh, then thou (Muhammad) seest them regarding thee with rolling eyes like one who fainteth unto death. Then, when the fear departeth, they scald you with sharp tongues in their greed for wealth (from the spoil). Such have not believed. Therefor Allah maketh their deeds fruitless. And that is easy for Allah.
begrudging you all help. But then, when danger threatens, thou canst see them looking to thee [for help, O Prophet], their eyes rolling [in terror] like [the eyes of] one who is overshadowed by death: yet as soon as the danger has passed, they will assail you [believers] with sharp tongues, begrudging you all that is good! [People like] these have never known faith - and therefore God will cause all their works to come to nought: for this is indeed easy for God.
They are niggardly in helping you, then when the time of fear comes to them, you will see them that they are looking towards you, their eyes are rolling as the death, has covered anyone, then when the time of fear has passed away, they began to taunt you with sharp toungs being greedy of the booty. These people have never believed, therefore Allah has nullified their works, and this is an easy thing for Allah.
(They do so) being miserly in your case. But when a fear (situation) arises, you will see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like those of someone fainting into death. But when fear departs, they offend you with sharp tongues (injuring your heart). They are (in a state of feeling) too greedy for spoils of war. (In fact) they have not believed at all. So Allah has annulled all their deeds. And that is easy for Allah
They ˹still˺ think that the enemy alliance has not ˹yet˺ withdrawn. And if the allies were to come ˹again˺, the hypocrites would wish to be away in the desert among nomadic Arabs, ˹only˺ asking for news about you ˹believers˺. And if the hypocrites were in your midst, they would hardly take part in the fight.
They hold that the clans have not retired (for good); and if the clans should advance (again), they would fain be in the desert with the wandering Arabs, asking for the news of you; and if they were among you, they would not give battle, save a little.
They think that the Confederates have not [really] withdrawn; and should the Confederates return, these [hypocrites] would prefer to be in the desert, among the bedouin, asking for news about you, [O believers, from far away;] and even were they to find themselves in your midst, they would but make a pretence at fighting [by your side].
They are thinking that the armies of the infidels have not yet gone, and if the armies come again, they would have wished them that anyhow being out in the village would enquire about your news. If they would have been among you, even then they would not have fought but a little.
They (still) imagine that the disbelievers’ troops have not yet gone (back), and if those troops should come (again), they would wish them join villagers settling as nomads and (conduct surveillance to) collect news about you. And even if they were amongst you, they would not fight except a very few
Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often.
Verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much.
VERILY, in the Apostle of God you have a good example for everyone who looks forward [with hope and awe] to God and the Last Day, and remembers God unceasingly.
Undoubtedly, you have the best in the following of the Messenger, for him who hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.
In truth, in (the sacred person of) Allah’s Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) there is for you a most perfect and beautiful model (of life) for every such person that expects and aspires to (meeting) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah abundantly
When the believers saw the enemy alliance, they said, “This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us. The promise of Allah and His Messenger has come true.” And this only increased them in faith and submission.
And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation.
And [so,] when the believers saw the Confederates [advancing against them], they said, “This is what God and His Apostle have promised us!”- and, “Truly spoke God and His Apostle!” and all this but increased their faith and their readiness to surrender themselves unto God.
And when the Muslims saw the confederates of the infidels said, 'this is what Allah and His Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth and it increased them nothing but faith and submission to the pleasure of Allah.
And when the believers saw the armies (of disbelievers), they said: ‘This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) have spoken the truth.’ So this (spectacle) increased their faith and their commitment to submission to Allah
Among the believers are men who have proven true to what they pledged to Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their pledge ˹with their lives˺, others are waiting ˹their turn˺. They have never changed ˹their commitment˺ in the least.
Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least;
Among the believers are men who have [always] been true to what they have vowed before God; and among them are such as have [already] redeemed their pledge by death, and such as yet await [its fulfillment] without having changed [their resolve] in the least.
Among Muslims are men who have made true the covenant they had made with Allah, then there are some of them who have fulfilled their vows and some who are still waiting and they are not changed in the least.
Amongst the believers (a great number of) men proved true what covenant they made with Allah. Of them is someone who has fulfilled his vow (by attaining to martyrdom), and of them is someone who is waiting (for his turn). But they have not changed (their covenant) in the least
˹It all happened˺ so Allah may reward the faithful for their faithfulness, and punish the hypocrites if He wills or turn to them ˹in mercy˺. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
That Allah may reward the true men for their truth, and punish the hypocrites if He will, or relent toward them (if He will). Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[Such trials are imposed upon man] so that God may reward the truthful for having been true to their word, and cause the hypocrites to suffer - if that be His will - or [if they repent,] accept their repentance: for, verily, God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!
That Allah may recompense the truthful ones for their truth and torment the hypocrites, if He will or He may turn towards them. Undoubtedly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
That Allah may reward the truthful for their truth and may torment the hypocrites if He wills or may accept their repentance. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful
And Allah drove back the disbelievers in their rage, totally empty-handed. And Allah spared the believers from fighting. For Allah is All-Powerful, Almighty.
And Allah repulsed the disbelievers in their wrath; they gained no good. Allah averted their attack from the believers. Allah is ever Strong, Mighty.
Thus, for all their fury, God repulsed those who were bent on denying the truth; no advantage did they gain, since God was enough to [protect] the believers in battle - seeing that God is most powerful, almighty;
And Allah turned back the infidels with their hearts burning, they gained no good, and Allah sufficed the Muslims in the fight and Allah is Powerful, Honourable.
And Allah repulsed the disbelievers (from Medina, defeated,) with the burning of their rage, for they failed to achieve any success. And Allah was Sufficient for the believers in the battle (of al-Ahzab [the Confederates]). And Allah is Ever-Strong, All-Powerful
And He brought down those from the People of the Book who supported the enemy alliance from their own strongholds, and cast horror into their hearts. You ˹believers˺ killed some, and took others captive.
And He brought those of the People of the Scripture who supported them down from their strongholds, and cast panic into their hearts. Some ye slew, and ye made captive some.
and He brought down from their strongholds those of the followers of earlier revelation who had aided the aggressors, and cast terror into their hearts: some you slew, and some you made captive;
And brought down those of the people of the Book who had helped them from their fortresses and cast terror in their hearts. You slay a group of them and another you make captive.
And the People of the Book (amongst the tribe of Banu Qurayza) who helped those (disbelieving combatants in breach of their peace treaty), Allah (also) brought them down from their fortresses and filled their hearts with the fear (of Islam). You kill a party of them (for their war crimes), and make the other party prisoners of war
He has also caused you to take over their lands, homes, and wealth, as well as lands you have not yet set foot on. And Allah is Most Capable of everything.
And He caused you to inherit their land and their houses and their wealth, and land ye have not trodden. Allah is ever Able to do all things.
and He made you heirs to their lands, and their houses, and their goods - and [promised you] lands on which you had never yet set foot: for God has indeed the power to will anything.
And We made you to capture their lands and their houses and their wealth and a land on which you have not set foot yet, And Allah is Potent over every thing.
And He made you the owners of the land, the houses and the wealth and the properties of these (war enemies) and the (captured) territory where you had not even stepped in (before). And Allah has Absolute Power over everything
O Prophet! Say to your wives, “If you desire the life of this world and its luxury, then come, I will give you a ˹suitable˺ compensation ˹for divorce˺ and let you go graciously.
O Prophet! Say unto thy wives: If ye desire the world's life and its adornment, come! I will content you and will release you with a fair release.
O PROPHET! Say unto thy wives: “If you desire [but] the life of this world and its charms - well, then, I shall provide for you and release you in a becoming manner;
'O the Communicator of unseen (prophet) says to your wives, 'If you wish the life of the world and its adornment, then come, I provide you wealth and leave you in a well manner.
O (Esteemed) Prophet! Say to your wives: ‘If you long for the world and its glitter, then come! I shall make a provision for you and set you free in a handsome manner
But if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the ˹everlasting˺ Home of the Hereafter, then Surely Allah has prepared a great reward for those of you who do good.”
But if ye desire Allah and His messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then lo! Allah hath prepared for the good among you an immense reward.
but if you desire God and His Apostle, and [thus the good of] the life in the hereafter, then [know that], verily, for the doers of good among you God has readied a mighty reward!”
And if you wish Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter then undoubtedly, Allah has kept prepared for the well doers among you a great reward.
But if you long for Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) and the abode of the Hereafter, then surely Allah has prepared for the pious amongst you a tremendous reward.
O wives of the Prophet! If any of you were to commit a blatant misconduct, the punishment would be doubled for her. And that is easy for Allah.
O ye wives of the Prophet! Whosoever of you committeth manifest lewdness, the punishment for her will be doubled, and that is easy for Allah.
O wives of the Prophet! If any of you were to become guilty of manifestly immoral conduct, double [that of other sinners] would be her suffering [in the hereafter]: for that is indeed easy for God.
'O wives of the prophet! Whosoever of you dares to do against manifest modesty shall have double torment in comparison to others. And this is easy for Allah.
O wives of the (Esteemed) Prophet! Whoever of you commits an obvious indecency, the torment for her will be doubled, and that is very easy for Allah
And whoever of you devoutly obeys Allah and His Messenger and does good, We will grant her double the reward, and We have prepared for her an honourable provision.
And whosoever of you is submissive unto Allah and His messenger and doeth right, We shall give her her reward twice over, and We have prepared for her a rich provision.
But if any of you devoutly obeys God and His Apostle and does good deeds, on her shall We bestow her reward twice-over: for We shall have readied for her a most excellent sustenance [in the life to come].
And whosoever of you remain obedient to Allah and His Messenger and does good deeds, We shall double her reward in comparison to others and We have kept prepared for her an honourable provision.
And those of you who remain obedient to Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) and persist in pious works, We shall give them double of their reward and We have prepared for them honourable sustenance (in Paradise)
O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women: if you are mindful ˹of Allah˺, then do not be overly effeminate in speech ˹with men˺ or those with sickness in their hearts may be tempted, but speak in a moderate tone.
O ye wives of the Prophet! Ye are not like any other women. If ye keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft of speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease aspire (to you), but utter customary speech.
O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any of the [other] women, provided that you remain [truly] conscious of God. Hence, be not over-soft in your speech, lest any whose heart is diseased should be moved to desire [you]: but, withal, speak in a kindly way.
'O wives of the prophet' you are not like other women if you fear Allah, therefore be not so polite in your speech lest one in whose heart is a disease should feel tempted, yes, speak good words.
O wives of the Messenger! You are not the like of any of the womenfolk. If you want to remain pious and Godfearing, then be not soft in your speech (whilst talking to men as and when required) lest someone whose heart is diseased (with hypocrisy) should feel inclined with desire. And (always) say words that are pure of any taint of doubt and flexibility
Settle in your homes, and do not display yourselves as women did in the days of ˹pre-Islamic˺ ignorance. Establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah only intends to keep ˹the causes of˺ evil away from you and purify you completely, O members of the ˹Prophet’s˺ family!
And stay in your houses. Bedizen not yourselves with the bedizenment of the Time of Ignorance. Be regular in prayer, and pay the poor-due, and obey Allah and His messenger. Allah's wish is but to remove uncleanness far from you, O Folk of the Household, and cleanse you with a thorough cleansing.
And abide quietly in your homes, and do not flaunt your charms as they used to flaunt them in the old days of pagan ignorance; and be constant in prayer, and render the purifying dues, and pay heed unto God and His Apostle: for God only wants to remove from you all that might be loathsome, O you members of the [Prophet’s] household, and to purify you to utmost purity.
And remain stay in your houses and be not unveiled like that of the unveiling of the former days of ignorance, and establish prayer and pay the poor-due (Zakat) and obey the commands of Allah and His Messenger. Allah only desires O! The members of the family of the prophet! That He may remove from you every uncleanness and purify you well after cleaning you thoroughly.
And remain in your houses with calm and peace and do not display adornment like that of the days of ignorance and establish prayer and pay Zakat (the Alms-due) and keep obeying Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him). Allah only intends to remove all the impurity of sins from you, O People of the House (of the Prophet, [even a doubt or trace of shortcoming]) and make you absolutely pure and clean by blessing you with (perfect) purity and wholesomeness
˹Always˺ remember what is recited in your homes of Allah’s revelations and ˹prophetic˺ wisdom. Surely Allah is Most Subtle, All-Aware.
And bear in mind that which is recited in your houses of the revelations of Allah and wisdom. Lo! Allah is Subtile, Aware.
And bear in mind all that is recited in your homes of God’s messages and [His] wisdom: for God is unfathomable [in His wisdom], all-aware.
And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of Allah and His wisdom Undoubtedly, Allah knows every subtlety, is Aware
And always remember the Revelations of Allah and the tradition and wisdom (of the Holy Prophet [blessings and peace be upon him]) which are recited in your homes. Surely, Allah is the Master of subtleties (for His favourite servants — Awliya’) and Well Aware (of all His Creation)
Surely ˹for˺ Muslim men and women, believing men and women, devout men and women, truthful men and women, patient men and women, humble men and women, charitable men and women, fasting men and women, men and women who guard their chastity, and men and women who remember Allah often—for ˹all of˺ them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.
Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember - Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.
VERILY, for all men and women who have surrendered themselves unto God, and all believing men and believing women, and all truly devout men and truly devout women, and all men and women who are true to their word, and all men and women who are patient in adversity, and all men and women who humble themselves [before God], and all men and women who give in charity, and all self-denying men and self-denying women, and all men and women who are mindful of their chastity, and all men and women who remember God unceasingly: for [all of] them has God readied forgiveness of sins and a mighty reward.
Undoubtedly, Muslims men and women, and the be lieving men and women, and obedient men and women and truthful men and women and enduring men and women and humble men and women, and almsgiving men and women and fasting men and women, and men and women who guard their chastity and men and women who remember Allah much, for all of them Allah has kept prepared forgiveness and great reward.
Surely, the submissive men and the submissive women, and the believing men and the believing women, and the obedient men and the obedient women, and the truthful men and the truthful women, and the steadfast men and the steadfast women, and the humble men and the humble women, and the men who give alms and the women who give alms, and the men who fast and the women who fast, and the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard their chastity, and the men who remember Allah abundantly and the women who remember Allah very much—Allah has prepared for all of them forgiveness and a mighty reward
It is not for a believing man or woman—when Allah and His Messenger decree a matter—to have any other choice in that matter. Indeed, whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly gone ˹far˺ astray.
And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest.
Now whenever God and His Apostle have decided a matter, it is not for a believing man or a believing woman to claim freedom of choice insofar as they themselves are concerned: for he who [thus] rebels against God and His Apostle has already, most obviously, gone astray.
And it is not befitting to a Muslim man or Muslim woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed something that they would have any choice in their matters, and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he undoubtedly, has strayed away manifestly.
And neither a believing man nor a believing woman has (this) right that, when Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) have given judgment (or a command) about an affair, they should exercise their own choice in (doing or not doing that) work of theirs. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) certainly loses his way into open error
And ˹remember, O Prophet,˺ when you said to the one for whom Allah has done a favour and you ˹too˺ have done a favour, “Keep your wife and fear Allah,” while concealing within yourself what Allah was going to reveal. And ˹so˺ you were considering the people, whereas Allah was more worthy of your consideration. So when Zaid totally lost interest in ˹keeping˺ his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no blame on the believers for marrying the ex-wives of their adopted sons after their divorce. And Allah’s command is totally binding.
And when thou saidst unto him on whom Allah hath conferred favour and thou hast conferred favour: Keep thy wife to thyself, and fear Allah. And thou didst hide in thy mind that which Allah was to bring to light, and thou didst fear mankind whereas Allah hath a better right that thou shouldst fear Him. So when Zeyd had performed that necessary formality (of divorce) from her, We gave her unto thee in marriage, so that (henceforth) there may be no sin for believers in respect of wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have performed the necessary formality (of release) from them. The commandment of Allah must be fulfilled.
AND LO, [O Muhammad,] thou didst say unto the one to whom God had shown favour and to whom thou hadst shown favour, “Hold on to thy wife, and remain conscious of God!” And [thus] wouldst thou hide within thyself something that God was about to bring to light for thou didst stand in awe of [what] people [might think], whereas it was God alone of whom thou shouldst have stood in awe! [But] then, when Zayd had come to the end of his union with her, We gave her to thee in marriage, so that [in future] no blame should attach to the believers for [marrying] the spouses of their adopted children when the latter have come to the end of their union with them. And [thus] God’s will was done.
And O beloved! Remember when you did say to him whom Allah bestowed a favour and you had bestowed a favour, 'keep your wife with yourself and fear Allah and you had in your heart what Allah had willed to disclose and you were afraid of people's taunting remarks; and Allah has a greater right that you should fear Him. Then when Zaid had accomplished his purpose with her, We gave her in your marriage, so that there should be no hindrance upon the Muslims in respect of the wives of their adopted sons when they have accomplished their purpose with them. And Allah's order is bound to be fulfilled.
And, (O Beloved, recall) when you said to him whom Allah had favoured and whom you (too) had done a favour: ‘Keep your wife (Zaynab) with you in the bond of marriage and fear Allah.’ And you were keeping that secret* in your heart which Allah was about to reveal. And you had (out of decency) the fear of the (scoffs of) people (in your heart. O Beloved! You need not have cared for people). And Allah alone has a greater right that you should fear Him (and who is more Godfearing than you!) So when (your adopted son) Zayd fulfilled his desire to divorce her, We married her to you so that there is no blame on the believers for (marrying) the wives of their adopted sons, whilst they have no desire for them (after divorce). And carrying out Allah’s command was a must
There is no blame on the Prophet for doing what Allah has ordained for him. That has been the way of Allah with those ˹prophets˺ who had gone before. And Allah’s command has been firmly decreed.
There is no reproach for the Prophet in that which Allah maketh his due. That was Allah's way with those who passed away of old - and the commandment of Allah is certain destiny -
[Hence,] no blame whatever attaches to the Prophet for [having done] what God has ordained for him. [Indeed, such was] God’s way with those that have passed away aforetime and [remember that] God’s will is always destiny absolute-;
There is no hindrance for the prophet regarding that which Allah has appointed for him. Such has been the practice of Allah among those who have gone before and the command of Allah is the ordained destiny.
And there is no blame on the Prophet in (accomplishing) that duty which Allah has made obligatory for him. And certainly the same has been the way and practice of Allah with those (as well) who have passed away before. And the command of Allah is a decree which has been fulfilled
˹That is His way with˺ those ˹prophets˺ who deliver the messages of Allah, and consider Him, and none but Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a ˹vigilant˺ Reckoner.
Who delivered the messages of Allah and feared Him, and feared none save Allah. Allah keepeth good account.
[and such will always be His way with] those who convey God’s messages [to the world], and stand in awe of Him, and hold none but God in awe: for none can take count [of man’s doings] as God does!
Those who deliver the messages of Allah, fear Him, and fear none except Allah. And Allah is Sufficient as a Reckoner.
Those (bygone) people used to communicate the messages of Allah, and fear Him, and they were afraid of none but Allah. And Allah is Sufficient as a Reckoner
Muḥammad is not the father of any of your men, but is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. And Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.
Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah is ever Aware of all things.
[And know, O believers, that] Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but is God’s Apostle and the Seal of all Prophets. And God has indeed full knowledge of everything.
Mohammed is not the father of any of your men; yes He is the Messenger of Allah and the last one among all the prophets. And Allah knows all things.
Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Last of the Prophets (ending the chain of the Prophets). And Allah is the Perfect Knower of everything
O believers! Always remember Allah often,
O ye who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.
O YOU who have attained to faith! Remember God with unceasing remembrance,
'O believers! Remember Allah much.
O believers! Keep remembering Allah abundantly
and glorify Him morning and evening.
And glorify Him early and late.
and extol His limitless glory from morn to evening.
And glorify Him morning and evening.
And glorify Him morning and evening
He is the One Who showers His blessings upon you—and His angels pray for you—so that He may bring you out of darkness and into light. For He is ever Merciful to the believers.
He it is Who blesseth you, and His angels (bless you), that He may bring you forth from darkness unto light; and He is ever Merciful to the believers.
He it is who bestows His blessings upon you, with His angels [echoing Him], so that He might take you out of the depths of darkness into the light. And, indeed, a dispenser of grace is He unto the believers.
It is He Who sends blessings on you and His angels too that He may bring you forth from darkness into light. And He is Merciful to the Muslims.
He is the One Who sends peace and blessings on you and His angels as well, so that He may take you out of the layers of darkness into the light. And He is Ever-Merciful to the believers
Their greeting on the Day they meet Him will be, “Peace!” And He has prepared for them an honourable reward.
Their salutation on the day when they shall meet Him will be: Peace. And He hath prepared for them a goodly recompense.
On the Day when they meet Him, they will be welcomed with the greeting, “Peace”; and He will have readied for them a most excellent reward.
For them, the greeting at the time of their meeting is "Peace", and He has kept prepared for them an honourable reward.
On the Day when they (the believers) will meet Him, their gift (of the meeting—greeting) will be: ‘Peace!’ And He has kept ready for them most honourable reward
O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, and a deliverer of good news, and a warner,
O Prophet! Lo! We have sent thee as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner.
[And as for thee,] O Prophet - behold, We have sent thee as a witness [to the truth], and as a herald of glad tidings and a warner,
'O prophet! The Communicator of unseen news, no doubt, We have sent you as a present beholder and bearer of glad tiding and a warner.
O (Esteemed) Prophet! Surely, We have sent you as a Witness (to the truth and the creation), a Bearer of glad tidings (of the beauty of the Hereafter) and a Warner (of the torment in the Hereafter)
and a caller to ˹the Way of˺ Allah by His command, and a beacon of light.
And as a summoner unto Allah by His permission, and as a lamp that giveth light.
and as one who summons [all men] to God by His leave, and as a light-giving beacon.
And an inviter towards Allah by His command and a brightening sun.
And (as) an Inviter towards Allah by His command and as a Sun spreading Light
Give good news to the believers that they will have a great bounty from Allah.
And announce unto the believers the good tidings that they will have great bounty from Allah.
And [so,] convey to the believers the glad tiding that a great bounty from God awaits them;
And give glad tidings to the believers that for them is great bounty of Allah.
And give good news to the believers that there is for them Allah’s great bounty (that they are cloaked in the affinity of slavery to the Final Messenger of Allah)
Do not yield to the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Overlook their annoyances, and put your trust in Allah. For Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.
And incline not to the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Disregard their noxious talk, and put thy trust in Allah. Allah is sufficient as Trustee.
and defer not to [the likes and dislikes of] the deniers of the truth and the hypocrites, and disregard their hurtful talk, and place thy trust in God: for none is as worthy of trust as God.
And do not do for the pleasure of infidels and hypocrites and overlook their annoyance and put your trust in Allah. And Allah suffices as an Accomplisher.
And never agree to what the disbelievers and the hypocrites say (i.e., ‘Conclude with us a religious agreement’). And disregard their hurtful misbehaviour, and maintain your trust in Allah (with persistence). And Allah alone is Sufficient as a Guardian (in the conflict between truth and falsehood)
O believers! If you marry believing women and then divorce them before you touch them, they will have no waiting period for you to count, so give them a ˹suitable˺ compensation, and let them go graciously.
O ye who believe! If ye wed believing women and divorce them before ye have touched them, then there is no period that ye should reckon. But content them and release them handsomely.
O YOU who have attained to faith! If you marry believing women and then divorce them ere you have touched them, you have no reason to expect, and to calculate, any waiting period on their part: hence, make [at once] provision for them, and release them in a becoming manner.
'O believers! When you marry Muslim women, then divorce them before touching them, in that case, you have no period of waiting which you may count against them, so give some benefit to them and leave them in a noble manner.
O believers! When you marry the believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them (i.e., had sexual intercourse with them), then no waiting period is (obligatory) on them for you which you may start counting. So give them some provision, and send them off nicely extending to them kindness
O Prophet! We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have paid their ˹full˺ dowries as well as those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession, whom Allah has granted you. And ˹you are allowed to marry˺ the daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts, who have emigrated like you. Also ˹allowed for marriage is˺ a believing woman who offers herself to the Prophet ˹without dowry˺ if he is interested in marrying her—˹this is˺ exclusively for you, not for the rest of the believers. We know well what ˹rulings˺ We have ordained for the believers in relation to their wives and those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession. As such, there would be no blame on you. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war, and the daughters of thine uncle on the father's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the father's side, and the daughters of thine uncle on the mother's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the mother's side who emigrated with thee, and a believing woman if she give herself unto the Prophet and the Prophet desire to ask her in marriage - a privilege for thee only, not for the (rest of) believers - We are Aware of that which We enjoined upon them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess - that thou mayst be free from blame, for Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
O PROPHET! Behold, We have made lawful to thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowers, as well as those whom thy right hand has come to possess from among the captives of war whom God has bestowed upon thee. And [We have made lawful to thee] the daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and the daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who have migrated with thee [to Yathrib]; and any believing woman who offers herself freely to the Prophet and whom the Prophet might be willing to wed: [this latter being but] a privilege for thee, and not for other believers - [seeing that] We have already made known what We have enjoined upon them with regard to their wives and those whom their right hands may possess. [And] in order that thou be not burdened with [undue] anxiety - for God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace –
'O Prophet! The Communicator of unseen news, We have made lawful for you those of your wives when you pay dower and the possession of your hand the slave girls whom Allah has given you as the spoils of war, and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts who have migrated with you, and the believing women if she presents herself to the prophet and the prophet desires to marry her, this provision is specially for you and not for the believing men. We know what We have appointed for them concerning their wives and the possession of their hands the slave girls; this specialty is of your so that there may not be any hardship on you. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
O Prophet! Surely, We have made lawful for you those of your wives whom you have paid their dower, and those who are in your possession (according to Allah’s commandments) whom Allah has given you as spoils of war, and the daughters of your paternal uncles, and the daughters of your paternal aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles, and the daughters of your maternal aunts who have emigrated with you, and any other believing woman who dedicates herself to the Holy Prophet (for marriage), provided the Holy Prophet (too) has the intention to marry her (so all these are lawful for you. This command is) exclusively for you, not for other believers (of the Umma [Community]). Indeed, We know best what We have prescribed for them (the Muslims) concerning their wives and the slave girls they possess. (But this exclusive command for lawfulness of number of wives in your respect has been given) so that there remains no difficulty for you (in making elaborate arrangements for the education and training of the women of the Muslim Umma [community]). And Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful
It is up to you ˹O Prophet˺ to delay or receive whoever you please of your wives. There is no blame on you if you call back any of those you have set aside. That is more likely that they will be content, not grieved, and satisfied with what you offer them all. Allah ˹fully˺ knows what is in your hearts. And Allah is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.
Thou canst defer whom thou wilt of them and receive unto thee whom thou wilt, and whomsoever thou desirest of those whom thou hast set aside (temporarily), it is no sin for thee (to receive her again); that is better; that they may be comforted and not grieve, and may all be pleased with what thou givest them. Allah knoweth what is in your hearts (O men), and Allah is ever Forgiving, Clement.
[know that] thou mayest put off for a time whichever of them thou pleasest, and mayest take unto thee whichever thou pleasest; and [that,] if thou seek out any from whom thou hast kept away [for a time], thou wilt incur no sin [thereby]: this will make it more likely that their eyes are gladdened [whenever they see thee], and that they do not grieve [whenever they are overlooked], and that all of them may find contentment in whatever thou hast to give them: for God [alone] knows what is in your hearts - and God is indeed all-knowing, forbearing.
You may put behind any of them whom you like and may give place near you any of them whom you like. And if you desire to have any one of those whom you had put aside, there is no blame on you. This is nearer than that their eyes may be cooled and that they may not grieve and they all may be pleased with what you have given them. And Allah knows what is in the hearts of you all. And Allah is knowing, For-bearing.
(O Prophet! You have a choice) to postpone (the turn of) any (wife) whom you may please from amongst your wives, and keep with you (any of them on priority) whom you may please. And there is no blame on you if you desire her (to be with you) from whom you kept distance (for a while). This makes possible for them cooling their eyes (by seeing you) and they will not remain grieved and they will all feel pleased and delighted for what you have blessed them with. And Allah knows best what is in your hearts and Allah is All-Knowing, Forbearing
It is not lawful for you ˹O Prophet˺ to marry more women after this, nor can you replace any of your present wives with another, even if her beauty may attract you—except those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession. And Allah is ever Watchful over all things.
It is not allowed thee to take (other) women henceforth, nor that thou shouldst change them for other wives even though their beauty pleased thee, save those whom thy right hand possesseth. And Allah is ever Watcher over all things.
No [other] women shall henceforth be lawful to thee nor art thou [allowed] to supplant [any of] them by other wives, even though their beauty should please thee greatly -: [none shall be lawful to thee] beyond those whom thou [already] hast come to possess. And God keeps watch over everything.
Thereafter other women are not allowed for you and nor you take other wives in exchange of them though their beauty please you but slave girl the possession of your hand. And Allah is Watchful over every thing.
After that (they have preferred your pleasure and your service to the worldly benefits), it is not lawful for you also (to marry) more women (so that these wives alone may enjoy the distinction of their glory). Nor is it lawful that (in case of divorce to some and regarding it Our command to maintain the present number of wives) you take (into marriage) other wives in their place, even though their beauty (of behaviour, moral conduct and style of preaching Din [Religion]) may seem to you pleasingly excellent. But the slave girl that is in your possession (by Our command is lawful). And Allah is Ever-Watchful over everything
O believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet without permission ˹and if invited˺ for a meal, do not ˹come too early and˺ linger until the meal is ready. But if you are invited, then enter ˹on time˺. Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behaviour is truly annoying to the Prophet, yet he is too shy to ask you to leave. But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah.
O Ye who believe! Enter not the dwellings of the Prophet for a meal without waiting for the proper time, unless permission be granted you. But if ye are invited, enter, and, when your meal is ended, then disperse. Linger not for conversation. Lo! that would cause annoyance to the Prophet, and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allah is not shy of the truth. And when ye ask of them (the wives of the Prophet) anything, ask it of them from behind a curtain. That is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not for you to cause annoyance to the messenger of Allah, nor that ye should ever marry his wives after him. Lo! that in Allah's sight would be an enormity.
O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not enter the Prophet’s dwellings unless you are given leave; [and when invited] to a meal, do not come [so early as] to wait for it to be readied: but whenever you are invited, enter [at the proper time]; and when you have partaken of the meal, disperse without lingering for the sake of mere talk: that, behold, might give offence to the Prophet, and yet he might feel shy of [asking] you [to leave]: but God is not shy of [teaching you] what is right. And [as for the Prophet’s wives,] whenever you ask them for anything that you need, ask them from behind a screen: this will but deepen the purity of your hearts and theirs. Moreover, it does not behove you to give offence to God’s Apostle - just as it would not behove you ever to marry his widows after he has passed away: that, verily, would be an enormity in the sight of God.
'O believers! Enter not the houses of the prophet unless you get permission, for instance you are invited to a meal, but not in this manner that you yourself wait for its preparation, yes when you are invited then enter and when you have taken your meal then disperse, nor this that you may sit down and amuse yourselves in talks. Undoubtedly, this was causing inconvenience to the Prophet, and he had regard for you, but Allah is not shy of saying the truth. And when you ask them anything of use, ask it of them from behind a curtain. In this, there is more purity of your hearts and their hearts. And it does not be have you that you should annoy the Messenger of Allah and nor you should ever marry his wives after him. Undoubtedly, this is a grievous thing in the sight of Allah.
O believers! Do not enter the houses of the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) unless permission is granted to you for a meal. Nor (reach so early as to) wait for the cooking of the meal. But when you are invited, then enter (at that time). Then, when you have eaten the meal, (get up from there and) disperse without delay, and do not linger on in eagerness for talk. Surely, your (sitting for long in this) manner discomforts the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him); and he feels reluctant to (ask) you (to leave), but Allah does not hesitate in (saying) the truth. And when you ask them (the pure wives) for something, ask them from behind a curtain. This (regard and nice manner) causes great purity for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not (at all lawful) for you that you cause inconvenience to the Holy Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him), nor is this (lawful) that you marry his (pure) wives after him, till the end of time. Surely, it is the most grievous sin in the sight of Allah
Whether you reveal something or conceal it, surely Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.
Whether ye divulge a thing or keep it hidden, lo! Allah is ever Knower of all things.
Whether you do anything openly or in secret, [remember that,] verily, God has full knowledge of everything.
Whether you disclose any thing or conceal it, undoubtedly, Allah knows all things.
Whether you disclose something or conceal it, Allah is certainly the Most Perfect Knower of everything
There is no blame on the Prophet’s wives ˹if they appear unveiled˺ before their fathers, their sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their fellow ˹Muslim˺ women, and those ˹bondspeople˺ in their possession. And be mindful of Allah ˹O wives of the Prophet!˺ Surely Allah is a Witness over all things.
It is no sin for them (thy wives) to converse freely) with their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or the sons of their sisters or of their own women, or their slaves. O women! Keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is ever Witness over all things.
[However,] it is no sin for them [to appear freely] before their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or such [male slaves] as their right hands may possess. But [always, O wives of the Prophet,] remain conscious of God - for, behold, God is witness unto everything.
There is no harm for them in respect of their fathers or their sons or their brothers, or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons or the women of their own faith or their maids (slave women) and remain fearing Allah. Undoubtedly, every thing is in the sight of Allah.
There is no sin on them (if they do not veil themselves) from their (real) fathers, and their sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their own (Muslim) women and from those slave girls whom they possess. And keep fearing Allah. Surely, Allah is Witness to and Ever-Watchful over everything
Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.
Lo! Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O ye who believe! Ask blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.
Verily, God and His angels bless the Prophet: [hence,] O you who have attained to faith, bless him and give yourselves up [to his guidance] in utter self-surrender!
Undoubtedly, Allah and His angels send blessings on the prophet the Communicator of unseen news, O you who believe! Send upon him blessings and salute him fully well in abundance.
Surely, Allah and (all) His angels send blessings and greetings on the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him). O believers! Invoke blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation of peace abundantly (and fervently)
Surely those who offend Allah and His Messenger are condemned by Allah in this world and the Hereafter. And He has prepared for them a humiliating punishment.
Lo! those who malign Allah and His messenger, Allah hath cursed them in the world and the Hereafter, and hath prepared for them the doom of the disdained.
Verily, as for those who [knowingly] affront God and His Apostle - God will reject them in this world and in the life to come; and shameful suffering will He ready for them.
Undoubtedly, those who annoy Allah and His Messenger, Allah's curse is upon them in the world and in the Hereafter and Allah has kept prepared for them a degrading torment.
Surely, those who offend Allah and His Prophet, Allah curses them in the world and in the Hereafter and He has prepared for them a disgraceful torment
As for those who abuse believing men and women unjustifiably, they will definitely bear the guilt of slander and blatant sin.
And those who malign believing men and believing women undeservedly, they bear the guilt of slander and manifest sin.
And as for those who malign believing men and believing women without their having done any wrong - they surely burden themselves with the guilt of calumny, and [thus] with a flagrant sin!
And those who hurt the believing men and believing women without doing anything, they have taken over their heads a calumny and an open sin.
And those who hurt the believing men and the believing women without their doing anything (wrong), surely, they bear (themselves) the burden of a false allegation and an open sin
O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized ˹as virtuous˺ and not be harassed. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters, as well as all [other] believing women, that they should draw over themselves some of their outer garments [when in public]: this will be more conducive to their being recognized [as decent women] and not annoyed. But [withal,] God is indeed much- forgiving, a dispenser of grace!
'O Prophet! Tell to your wives, and daughters and Muslim women, that they should keep putting a part of their wrapping covers over their faces. This is nearer than this that if they are recognized, they should not be annoyed. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
O Prophet! Say to your wives, your daughters and the women of believers that, (whilst going out,) they should draw their veils as coverings over them. It is more likely that this way they may be recognized (as pious, free women), and may not be hurt (considered by mistake as roving slave girls). And Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful
If the hypocrites, and those with sickness in their hearts, and rumour-mongers in Medina do not desist, We will certainly incite you ˹O Prophet˺ against them, and then they will not be your neighbours there any longer.
If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and the alarmists in the city do not cease, We verily shall urge thee on against them, then they will be your neighbours in it but a little while.
THUS IT IS: if the hypocrites, and they in whose hearts is disease, and they who, by spreading false rumours, would cause disturbances in the City [of the Prophet] desist not [from their hostile doings]. We shall indeed give thee mastery over them, [O Muhammad] - and then they will not remain thy neighbours in this [city] for more than a little while:
If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts there is a disease and those who circulate lies in Madina desist not, We shall surely give you authority over them; then they will not remain with you in Madina but a little.
If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is the disease (of malice and insolence against the Holy Prophet [blessings and peace be upon him]) and (likewise) those who spread false rumours in Medina do not desist, then We shall certainly make you overmaster them. Then they will not be able to stay in the neighbourhood of Medina but for a few (days)
˹They deserve to be˺ condemned. ˹If they were to persist,˺ they would get themselves seized and killed relentlessly wherever they are found!
Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter.
bereft of God’s grace, they shall be seized wherever they may be found, and slain one and all.
Accursed they are wherever they are found they shall be seized, and be slain counting one by one.
(These) accursed (militant, terrorist and riotous) people (engaged in violent anti-state conspiracies), wherever found, are to be seized and every one of them to be killed (as punishment for their rebellious activities, making them awful signs, to eliminate the threats to peace once and for all)
That was Allah’s way with those ˹hypocrites˺ who have gone before. And you will find no change in Allah’s way.
That was the way of Allah in the case of those who passed away of old; thou wilt not find for the way of Allah aught of power to change.
Such has been God’s way with those who [sinned in like manner and] passed away aforetime - and never wilt thou find any change in God’s way!
This has been the practice of Allah regarding those who have gone before, and you shall never find a change in the practice of Allah.
This practice of Allah has (continued) through generations that have passed before, and you will never find any amendment in the way practised by Allah
People ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about the Hour. Say, “That knowledge is only with Allah. You never know, perhaps the Hour is near.”
Men ask thee of the Hour. Say: The knowledge of it is with Allah only. What can convey (the knowledge) unto thee? It may be that the Hour is nigh.
PEOPLE will ask thee about the Last Hour. Say: “Knowledge thereof rests with God alone; yet for all thou knowest, the Last Hour may well be near!”
The people ask you concerning the Hour. Say you, 'its knowledge is with Allah alone, and what you know perhaps the Hour may be near
The people ask you about (the Hour of) Resurrection. Say: ‘Its knowledge is with Allah alone. And who has made you aware—it may be that the Last Hour has drawn near?
Surely Allah condemns the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a blazing Fire,
Lo! Allah hath cursed the disbelievers, and hath prepared for them a flaming fire,
Verily, God has rejected the deniers of the truth, and has readied for them a blazing fire,
Undoubtedly, Allah has cursed the infidels, and has kept prepared for them a blazing fire.
Surely, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and readied for them the Blazing Fire (of Hell)
to stay there for ever and ever—never will they find any protector or helper.
Wherein they will abide for ever. They will find (then) no protecting friend nor helper.
therein to abide beyond the count of time: no protector will they find, and none to bring them succour.
Wherein they shall abide for ever, they shall find therein no supporter nor helper.
They will dwell in it forever. They will find neither any caring friend nor any supporting helper
On the Day their faces are ˹constantly˺ flipped in the Fire, they will cry, “Oh! If only we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!”
On the day when their faces are turned over in the Fire, they say: Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and had obeyed His messenger!
On the Day when their faces shall be tossed about in the fire, they will exclaim, “Oh, would that we had paid heed unto God, and paid heed unto the Apostle!”
The day when their faces turning up and down will be fried in the Fire, they will say, 'Oh, would that we have obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger.
On the Day when their faces will be (repeatedly) turned over in the Fire of Hell, they will say: ‘Alas! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Holy Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him)!
And they will say, “Our Lord! We obeyed our leaders and elite, but they led us astray from the ˹Right˺ Way.
And they say: Our Lord! Lo! we obeyed our princes and great men, and they misled us from the Way.
And they will say: “O our Sustainer! Behold, we paid heed unto our leaders and our great men, and it is they who have led us astray from the right path!
And they will say, 'O our Lord! we obeyed our chiefs and our elders, and they led us astray from the way.'
And they will say: ‘O our Lord, surely we followed what our chiefs and the influential ones directed, so they turned us away from the (straight) path
Our Lord! Give them double ˹our˺ punishment, and condemn them tremendously.”
Our Lord! Oh, give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse.
O our Sustainer! Give them double suffering, and banish them utterly from Thy grace!”
'O our Lord! give them double torment of Fire, and curse them with a great curse.
O our Lord! Afflict them with double torment and lay on them a mighty curse.
O believers! Do not be like those who slandered Moses, but Allah cleared him of what they said. And he was honourable in the sight of Allah.
O ye who believe! Be not as those who slandered Moses, but Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, and he was well esteemed in Allah's sight.
O YOU who have attained to faith! Be not like those [children of Israel] who gave offence to Moses, and [remember that] God showed him to be innocent of whatever they alleged [against him or demanded of him]: for of great honour was he in the sight of God.
'O believers! be not like those who have annoyed Musa, then Allah exonerated him of what he spoke of him. And Musa is honourable in the sight of Allah.
O believers! Do not be like those who hurt Musa ([Moses] by means of their denigrating words). So Allah proved him clear of the blames which they levelled against him. And he (Musa [Moses]) had great honour and high standing in the sight of Allah
O believers! Be mindful of Allah, and say what is right.
O ye who believe! Guard your duty to Allah, and speak words straight to the point;
O you who have attained to faith! Remain conscious of God, and [always] speak with a will to bring out [only] what is just and true -
'O believers! fear Allah and say the right word.
O believers! Always fear Allah and say what is correct and straight
He will bless your deeds for you, and forgive your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, has truly achieved a great triumph.
He will adjust your works for you and will forgive you your sins. Whosoever obeyeth Allah and His messenger, he verily hath gained a signal victory.
[whereupon] He will cause your deeds to be virtuous, and will forgive you your sins. And [know that] whoever pays heed unto God and His Apostle has already attained to a mighty triumph.
He will set right your deeds for you and will forgive you your sins, And whoso obeys Allah and His Messenger, has got a great success.
He will set (all) your deeds right for you and will forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Holy Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) will surely achieve a great success
Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they ˹all˺ declined to bear it, being fearful of it. But humanity assumed it, ˹for˺ they are truly wrongful ˹to themselves˺ and ignorant ˹of the consequences˺,
Lo! We offered the trust unto the heavens and the earth and the hills, but they shrank from bearing it and were afraid of it. And man assumed it. Lo! he hath proved a tyrant and a fool.
Verily, We did offer the trust [of reason and volition] to the heavens, and the earth, and the mountains: but they refused to bear it because they were afraid of it. Yet man took it up - for, verily, he has always been prone to be most wicked, most foolish.
Undoubtedly, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and were afraid of it, and man bore it. Undoubtedly, he is the bearer of hardship, ignorant.
Indeed, We offered the trust (of obedience) to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they declined to bear this (burden) and felt scared of it, but man took it on. Verily, he is given to wrongdoing (against his own soul), unwise and extremely ignorant (of the consequence of lapse in paying back the trust)
so that Allah will punish hypocrite men and women and polytheistic men and women, and Allah will turn in mercy to believing men and women. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
So Allah punisheth hypocritical men and hypocritical women, and idolatrous men and idolatrous women. But Allah pardoneth believing men and believing women, and Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
[And so it is] that God imposes suffering on the hypocrites, both men and women, as well as on the men and women who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him. And [so, too, it is] that God turns in His mercy unto the believing men and believing women: for God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!
So that Allah may torment hypocrites men, women and idolatrous men and women, and that Allah may accept the repentance of Muslim men and women. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
(This is) so because Allah torments the hypocrites, men and women, and the polytheists, men and women, and Allah accepts repentance of the believers, men and women. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful
